Roadtrip East - More from Koli National Park

I posted some of the scenery shots from Koli already but here is a bit more.

Koli is a fell, and a national park,in eastern Finland and titled to be the national view of Finland. Koli fell rises next to lake Pielinen, and is surrounded by coniferous forest. It really is a spectacular piece of nature and I no longer wonder why it is such a popular destination. I had never visited it before but it had been on my list of places to visit for ages, like numerous other nature destinations in my home country.

Koli has a lot of trails to choose from and you don’t even have to hike to the top. There is a parking lot close to the top, where you can either walk up, or take the non-stop lift. We obviously chose the lift cause it looked real fun, and then only walk around the top parts of the fell. If you are feeling fancy and wanna spend the night in Koli, there is a hotel right at the top.

We were in Koli only for the evening, and not even to view the sunset because that was so late. Koli is really easily accessible and you don't have to be a hardcore hiker to get to the good view. Though mind you, there are no railings and such around the rock faces, so you gotta be careful not to slip and fall down.

There was something pretty magical that happened right as we started to head back towards the lift and parking lot. A faint sound of a witch drum in the distance, and once we got closer to it, we also heard a beautiful voice singing with it. Pretty damn perfect for mid summer.

Shot with the Nikon D7200 and Sigma 50-100mm f1.8.

Dang, where can I sign up to a serenade with a singing witch and a banging witch drum?

Coincidentally, this is my view at the moment to lake Pielinen.

I think you need to know the right spells to conjure up a witch!

You have relatives in Lieksa right? Looks beautiful out there.

What a beautiful place! Are there bears? Looks like there'd be bears.

A good question...I think there is as this very meme was filmed in this location. If you look really closely you can make out Eve in the background. It's quite a loose-skinned bear isn't it, but I'm sure it'll fatten up over the summer.

It's lucky you were there right at that moment the pair of druids took a drum-beating break. Made for a nice photo.

I nice looking spot here...I googled it and it's certainly somewhere I'd like to visit when we're there next.

I think you need to come for like two months so you’ll have enough time to be with the family and see all sorts of nice places :)

I know, time is the big inhibitor. I'd love to do some more remote areas, but only being there for two weeks makes it hard. I'd like to do some camping, hiking etc...Exploring. Maybe I should just live there for a year?

You should! I think you and Faith would like it here :)

I think we would too...Well, might be cold for us Aussies in the winter but we'd survive. Munkki's and coffee to the rescue. (And whiskey). You could teach me how not to suck at taking photos! I'd throw a few selfies on the chain, fruit strategically placed...Bananas.

Lol.

There is no bad weather, just unsuitable clothing :)

Haha, I like that one! I don't think anything I have here is suitable for a Finnish winter.

I swear to god, I'm honestly finding a new wallpaper for my phone from every single one of your posts. 😂 Really cool pictures! I wish we'd find mountains like that in Estonia!

Did you pick the first one? I put that on my locked screen on the phone
😁 I don’t know if you have anything like this in Estonia but I’ve visited the cliffs on your coast and those are insane!
