Fortress of the Magdalena

Greetings dear friends and photography lovers

Today I have the pleasure of presenting you with a place whose mystical atmosphere is fascinating to me, it is the fortress of the Magdalena. This wonderful place, is located in the west axis of the hill "El Morro", a rock formation located about 30 meters above the sea, and belonging to the city of Lechería, north of Anzoátegui state. It has an unbeatable position, facing the Caribbean Sea, which allows its visitors to enjoy an almost magical experience while enjoying its spectacular sunsets.

Being the scene of many battles during our colonial and independence period, there are many stories, existing around the ruins of this castle. One of the stories that has transpired to this day, tells that in order to protect their wealth, the Spaniards buried a large treasure in the vicinity of this fort, however, although they have been excavated, all have been unsuccessful , being achieved until now, only some weapons, under the sand and at the bottom of the sea.

The construction of this fort goes back to dates after 1794, according to the records of the time, in April of that year, there was an incursion of pirates in the area, which is why the Spanish were in need of building a fort , that allowed them to defend the area of the Dutch, English and French pirates. The important work of design and construction of this fortification, was entrusted to the military engineers, Francisco Jacot and Casimiro Isava, who chose the south west part of the hill as the ideal place at a strategic level for its location.

Architecturally speaking, the Fortín de la Magdalena has a sober and simple style, very characteristic of the Venezuelan colonial era. Being located on the hill, the entire area that is located in front of the sea is bordered by a stone wall of approximately 50 cm. of thickness. This perimeter wall, not only allowed to place the cannons, but also served as a protective barrier of its balcony - terrace, which, gave it the strategic advantage of being able to have a field of visibility of 180 °. The path to the main access descends by a set of terraces, leading to a large portico, where you can enter a corridor, on whose sides are located two buildings with a rectangular base and gabled roofs. Finally, on the north side of the building, there is a set of terraces and gardens, and a tank that served as a water deposit was located underground.

In order to recover and preserve over time, the beauty and glory of this important military building, which reminds us of our colonial past, in 2010, restoration work was carried out in practically the entire fort, which allows today , to own and tourists not only enjoy a beautiful view and wonderful sunsets, but apart, it provides professionals of photography, an excellent location, where to make wonderful photo sessions.

Hola Francys!

Increíbles ediciones fotográficas de tomas realmente excelentes. El mar como fondo de imagen o un cielo despejado, aportan mucho al enfoque del elemento principal. El acercamiento de las imágenes también las resaltaron.

Me gustaron, felicidades.
