Graveyard Full Of Candles

avatar

At the end of the year at Christmas, I usually spend this time in a town named Rapla with my family. Every year we also have a tradition to go to the graveyard and plant some candles on the grave. It's not only us but it seems most of the people do that during this time. I am not sure about the other countries and traditions so you can tell me If you or other people in your country also do that during Xmas.

I took a couple of long exposure shots in the graveyard because I wanted to show you how it looks like. Of course, the photograph does not do justice, with my own eyes it looked really spectacular.

We have the same tradition in Finland too, a lot of people go take candles in the graveyards on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. It's really beautiful and peaceful when the whole area is like a sea of candles.

Oke, its a nice tradition yes. Only one day in a year when we see that many candles in one place.

My own family doesn't really do it, or I may be mistaken, my grandmother and aunt+uncle might.

Our usual tradition has always been a little dinner at grandma's. On our way home, though, we always pass a graveyard and you can see all the candles glowing, burning, from the car, and it's weirdly magical. One year I remember seeing someone in a Santa Claus costume waving in front of the graveyard.

Oh, and this year we had lunch at grandma's the next day, but at Christmas Eve we went to visit my brother's wife's parents, which was a new, interesting and quite fun evening. I'm glad to have her (bro's wife) in our family and love how everyone gets along great (our parents and her parents, etc)!

Good to hear that you are all getting along. I have a pretty huge family who sticks together so I think there were at least 16 or 17 people at Christmas eve.
In graveyard, they usually sing too for the dead but me, I stay quiet :D
