Peričnik Waterfall, Slovenia

avatar

The highest twin in Slovenia!
It's Friday, the weekend is here, and before I look at the next waterfall, I'd like to introduce you to this one.

Slovenia

Near Mojstrana, which lies in Slovenia between Krajnska Gora and Jesenice (a link to Google Maps is at the end of the post), you will find the Peričnik Waterfall / Slap Peričnik, when you drive through the village to the valley in the south.

From Mojstrana you drive on a partially paved and partially gravel road for a few miles until you come to a roadhouse and then parking left hand side of the road. From the end of the parking lot you can already see the big waterfall and of course hear it.

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

Actually, I should say "Peričnik waterfalls" because they are "the biggest twins in Slovenia": the waterfall consists of two waterfalls lying one above the other.

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

After a ten-minute walk through the forest you reach the mighty waterfall, which is considered one of the largest waterfalls in Slovenia with a height of 52 meters (170 feet), and behind which one can also walk ... and get wet 😉

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

If you also want to see the second, much smaller 16 meter (52 feet) high waterfall, continue up the path.
The relatively leisurely forest path becomes a short but rather steep climb, but at the top you will be rewarded with a kind of plateau with a smaller waterfall behind which you can also pass and get wet. The stream then flows over the plain until it plunges into the depths at the edge.

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

If you are particularly brave, you can venture right to the edge, although I advise great caution because of the loose ground.

❖ click the image for fullsize view ❖

Although the path behind the waterfall looks dry, I would advise light rain gear because the people who just walked through were all wet 😉

Once again, I have another reason to visit Slovenia 😍
All pictures are very beautiful, but number 9 (I count them!) is my favorite!

Where are you going to on this weekend?

Good evening and thank you so much, @zirochka 🙂
I like this photo too - it was not easy to make, because the foreground was so dark and you can see the bright sky.
For tomorrow I have planned a hike to two waterfalls, of course in Slovenia 😉

Are you there now? On vacations?
I am going to a day trip tomorrow, not far from Kyiv. But they promise we'll visit picturesque places. Hope the weather will be better, as today it was mist all day and very wet.
Good luck to you for tomorrow and enjoy your weekend!

Oh no, I am not on vacation - Slovenia is just half an hour away from my home, and the parking lot where I will begin tomorrow's hike is another half an hour drive away 😉
I wish you also good luck and nice weather for your trip tomorrow. Have a good night, @zirochka 🙂

Hello @cezary-io 🙂
Sorry for the late reply, but I have gone earlier to bed yesterday and have gone on a hike to two waterfalls early this morning.
Thank you so much for liking my photos. This waterfall is a very beautiful one, and it is easy to get there too 😉

Very dramatic waterfall! The water flow seems very strong with loud noises. The water must be too cold for swimming in the pond below! The rainy season there must have been quite wet too!

0

avatar

Yes, it was very loud there, @kaminchan, you couldn't speak to other people without shouting.
The pond it soo small to swim, and I wouldn't want to swim in there anyway, because it's too cold and the water falls in there very hard.
We don't have a rainy season - it rains every now and then over the year, sometimes more, sometimes less and the last weeks have been quite wet, as you say 😉

There is not much to hike to get to these waterfalls, but in the area around there are many hiking paths.
Thank you for your kind words, @buzweaveryoutube, I wish you a great weekend 🙂

No, I wanted to walk behind it, but then a lot of tourists came, and I left that place to come back on another day 😉 On one photo you can see the first group of tourists walking behind the waterfall.

Because the waterflow always depends on the available water I cannot say, how many water flows or how fast it falls down. But when I am there next time, I will take a bucket with me and tell you how many times I coult fill it in one minute 😉
