African Wednesday: Camel with Berber Guide in Sahara, Morocco

avatar

A camel tour through the Sahara near Merzouga is one of Morocco's most popular activities for tourists. I gave it a go and really enjoyed seeing the desert this way.

This made me laugh, reminded me of an old Spanish guy I used to see in my town in Cambodia every day. He spoke almost no English, and my Spanish at that time was nearly as bad. But the one thing he always called me was "Barbarus." For about 6 months I always wondered why he called me this. Then, one evening while relaxing in my hammock, it call came together. He's from Spain and Spain is Morocco's neighbor. I am a ginger and so are many of the Berber people of Morocco. I guess since Spain doesn't really have a ginger population, they mostly know of the ginger gene by way of Morocco. When I saw the word "Berber," I thought I ought to share this. !BEER !giphy ginger !trdovoter
