The double look (Photographs and reflection)

Hello, Steemit's friends. These days I'm looking at a woodcarving at my boyfriend's house. The woodcarving was a gift I gave him a long time ago, since he is a fan of woodcarving. One of the things that impressed me when I bought it was the look of that female sculpture with golden wings and thick figure. I think the artist who made it tried to recreate the look of a woman, which can be full of infinite meanings.

I look at the silhouette and I can hardly see anything but his eyes. I am blinded by her, who looks from afar defiantly, as if she were above, accusing, pointing, observing everything; and I remember my childhood when I dreamt of accusing angels, when I prayed at night to save me from the fury of the gods and to win for me a good and unknown heaven.

In the serenity is the finding. His unchangeable face holds eyes that are about to fall. Her retinas wander before those who see her. It is a double gaze. Hers and the one that approaches to observe her. It is as if the one who sees it, in one way or another, feels reflected. Looking at her, I see myself, what I am and what I feel.

One of the most mysterious objects in the world is the mirror. Much has been said about the stories it holds, its legends and myths, which all have to do with the souls that are trapped in it. But, in my opinion, the magic and the mystery are in the look. When we look in the mirror we discover our own self, our essence. This dual play can be cruel and even macabre. Because no one is as they appear to be and the truth of ourselves can be dangerous.

How much meaning does a look hold? In real life we talk about a kinesic language, a language that is made up of body expressions, tone of voice, look. It is a silent language that we learn over time and, although it can be misinterpreted at times, it can be very effective, confidential, complicit and even practical. The son who looks at his mother, the boyfriend who looks at the woman in love, the judge who looks at the accused, the victim who looks at the victimizer, knows the value and meaning of a look.

In art, there are many examples that speak of how the artist has emphasized the eyes of the characters represented and even how we can feel, on some occasions, that these characters can follow us with their gaze. An example of this is Leonardo Da Vinci's famous Mona Lisa, in which we not only perceive movement in the eyes, but also in her mouth. When I look at the wood carving of this female angel, I cannot help but think of the ease with which some people can speak with their eyes, transmitting emotions only through eye contact. The great Spanish poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer said: "The soul that can speak through the eyes, can also kiss with the look". I'm sure it is!

Reflections of great significance from the striking photos of a somewhat enigmatic figure. As I read, it is inevitable that two phrases will come to me that are also very charged with complex meaning: "Every angel is terrible" by Rilke and "In the mirror where you look at yourself there is no one" by Rafael Cadenas. Greetings, @nancybriti.
