My New Telephoto Lens and My First Practice Shots

avatar

I've wanted to get a telephoto lens for quite a while now and finally went ahead and got one. I had been using a Nikon 18-55mm that came with my Nikon D3300 when I bought it.

As you can see I opted for a Tamron AF 70-300mm. It also has a macro option that I am interested in trying out. I went with this lens because I couldn't find a low end Nikon lens with auto focus that would work with my D3300.

Following are three unedited shots at 70mm, 135mm and 300mm. I took these in program mode just to see how things went.

Not too bad but I did notice my not very steady hand at increased zoom settings. :)

These were shot at 70mm and 185mm. The 300mm shot in this group was too blurry. Unsteady hand. lol.

Here is one more set of shots at 70mm, 135mm and 300mm.

So overall right now I am pretty happy with the lens. I wish it had VR (vibration reduction) but that is a luxury I will have to do without. I will probably start using my tripod more often for increased zoom shots. I can also see that I need to work on my overall photographic skills with my camera. Let the learning curve begin! :)

Photos taken by me, @oldmans, with a Nikon D3300 and Samsung Galaxy S5 Active.

Thanks for looking and enjoy your day!

I wish you much fun with your new zoom lens @oldmans 😊
You will see it makes much fun using it, but you really should consider using your tripod more often as you say.
My lenses have built in image stabilisation but I shoot on the tripod most of the times.

I would be quite !DERANGED if I didn't give you a !BEER and a !COFFEEA for this $trdo post 😉

Thank you @johannpiber! I'm going to have to wait until I upgrade my equipment to get all the bells and whistles I desire. :) In the mean time I will learn a lot more about how to use the equipment I have to get some usable shots. It should be a fun learning curve. :)

You are most welcome @oldmans 🙂
It's always much fun when you learn something new and get better and better.

My wife can be glad that I'm still working, because otherwise she wouldn't see me much, because I would be somewhere practicing photographing all the time 😉

They say that cold !COFFEEA makes one beautiful. I wonder if warm !BEER does the same 😉

Learning is always good. My biggest problem sometimes is patience. I want to know it all right now. lol. Even on the trail sometimes I get so excited to see the next thing that I don't take the proper time to capture the beauty that is right in front of me at the moment. :)

Ah, to live in a world where your passion could be your job. Maybe someday. :)

Have a great day my friend!

Are you talking about me or about yourself? Haha - I'm the same, not only in photography, but in quite everything ;)
In my next life I want to try to do something that I love and not something that brings me more money but is boring and most times frustrating.

Have a great day too, my friend 🙂

A hot morning !COFFEEA is very important for me to wake up from my !DERANGED dreams 😉
