mysterious morel mushroom

avatar

The ecology of Morchella species is not well understood. It is considered today, there exist about 70 Morel species... and one of them (or maybe even two!) I was happy to encounter myself. This is not a very rare mushroom, but its hard to find -- cause it happens only 3-4 weeks during late Spring...

2007_ladoga_mv260 corr.jpg

My case happened back in 2007 at a small island at Ladoga skerries... I was lucky to found a whole family in early June -- when the growing period actually was all over. Dry weather helped to preserve the sunken shrooms, they were standing on a small stone plato (dry stone soil just added some preservation coefficient to it, which doesnt necessarily happens).

I did about 12 shots of these beautiful smroom edition (and will share all of them one day). The sad part is -- dont lol at me -- I was limited in my travel with two compact flashes, capacity of 1,5Gb. (it was 2007!) so I had to change camera resolution from hires to medium... damn economy... ok, I still have more than I need, and actually I may even downscale them for web purposes ))))

here is a version with x-processing effect added (a bit) :

and here's a black-and-white version:

I'd be very appreciative to hear which one you preferred better.
next time! ... and

Happy Fungie Friday to you!

#FungiFriday fun challenge by @EwkaW

I hope many of you will join as there are only 2 simple rules:

  • when Friday comes, share your fungi with us! post your own, original photo/drawing/art/food/anything-at-all of any type of fungi (yes, stolen images will be checked and reported !)
  • add #fungifriday (not necessarily must be your 1st tag). that's all!

Ohhhh gorgeousness!
I like the first shot the most. The colours are warmer...
You know those are edible?

And I can't not mention all those tiny little cups around. I think those are birdsnest mushrooms. Little cuties :)

yes, these little ones.. i d. k. their name!
birds nest, really?... sweet.

I know -- they are edible..
I actually looked up wiki... and started to do a morels megapost for weku (!) ages ago... never ended it, so I just sit and hoard these morels shots I have :/ I hope I will release them one day! when I add a proper story to them..

thanks for your choice. #1 is good, it has warmer reddish black. x-processing gives cyanide tint to a certain areas of the pic... probably, I love better the black caps from the 1st, combined with the greenish grass of the 2nd :P sometimes you just cant decide which is better. but its definitely not b-w for you?.. @ewkaw

In my town I do not have the pleasure of enjoying such a variety of fungi, so he obtained a large amount.

i have problems with that, too. 'concrete urban jungles' are not so mushroom-friendly. thanks god, we have some green lawns and parks... which are more fungi-friendly o_0

Lucky you finding multiple of these beautiful fungi at once, too bad it was 12 years ago gear wise. My favourite the b&w onw, As I am a sucker for mono shots so it might not be a big surprise. the 🤓

so far, folks vote for 1st (as more warm one) or b-w image. curious! yes, sadly I cant re-check them. in the spring (when they grow) I dont happen at the outer locations where one might find them! @tijntje, i will share some more, and now definitely will do more b-w versions. thanks for your vote / comment!

I am not too much in the know, too. (a great mushroom expert here on steemit is @sketch.and.jam, in case you will have an identifying problem or else, drop a shout). but personally I am fascinated with their exterior outlook, alien shapes, their rarity and ephemera... and a dozen of other precious qualities! @manorvillemike

I see a little cup fungi at the base of these two as well. Might be in the peziza family of mushrooms.
