Reflections From a Window

Have you ever wondered
What it would be like
To be weightless?
That feeling of nothingness.
Not the type you’re thinking about.
There’s no deep unending hole
Squeezing and swallowing,
Biting till you can’t move.
This is different, like air.
Cool, calm and gentle.

It’s dark and I’m standing,
Not from weariness or anger,
Excitement too is absent.
It’s a line between peace and pandemonium.
A mark that exposes need and want,
What is right and what is wrong,
That thrill of being underwater
Surging upwards with great force.
No thoughts, just you in the moment,
Floating endlessly.

I let my fingers crack open the glass.
That way, I can dream
Of things real and unreal.
You know when a man first meets a woman
And his thoughts are filled with her,
What her laughter sounds like,
How she tastes when limp with passion.
You may have a different idea of dreaming,
But in the end it’s all the same.
They don’t really matter.

Some may call it reflections.
I know it by a different name.
It’s become my safe heaven,
A place where I can escape.
Do you think it’s all right
To make it permanent?
A tiny room to exhale and unfeel.
Today, I see the world differently,
Standing by my window,
Watching people and time go by.
