This perennial river that flows
Overflowing in the rains
Quenching the elephant's thirst,
Including the ostrich's
Watering the Iroko
Cooling the perched earth, and
Harbouring the whale;
Runs dry
Goes to dust and oblivion
In AIDS' harmattan

This wonderful tree
With a network of branches
Showing dense foliage
Providing refuge to Avis
Medicine for the sick
Healthy fruits to the beasts, and
To all-conquering man;
Dies out
Goes to dust and oblivion
At AIDS' harvest

This beautiful flower
Blossoming with the springs
Cheering the sorrowful
Comforting the oppressed
Soothing the hurt
Smiling at the sun, and
Feeding insects;
Dries up
Goes to dust and oblivion
At AIDS' charm

This fellow that smiles
Sings and boasts
This eloquent speaker
A genius of sort
Under a perfect diet regime
Exhibiting a wrinkleless skin
This masterpiece of the Creator;
Enters the grave
Goes to dust and oblivion
At AIDS' call

This beehive of a village
Due to human traffic
With children playing on the sand
And socialising adults
Planning for tomorrow
Typifying a peak life, and
Overshadowing death;
Ends in silence
Goes to dust and oblivion
At AIDS' epidemic.
