IN THIS MOMENT WE TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Time, it goes fast, but every now and again we have memories of past events that stand out.

We have these little awakenings in life that give us time to reflect, maybe to see how far we’ve come since that event happened.

Or maybe something stops us right in our tracks, like an old poem that appears, to remind us of what we’ve forgotten.

Some events are good and some not so much, but they came and went and are now history, we survived the painful ones, we’ve gone forward; and the joyful ones have passed too with hopefully more to come.

We may think: how much have we lost in the time gone; how much have we forgotten; but then, how much have we grown, and how much joy has come our way?

Our lives have flown to here, and perhaps we’ve made the best of them, and perhaps we haven’t; but whatever we’ve done now is all we have, and in this moment we take the next step.

Sometimes life gives us lemons to make with what we will; where adding a little honey and grim-faced we tell ourselves it’s good for us.

And that half acknowledged ache in your heart that keeps coming back to bother you to listen to it as you plunge onwards in your life; what is that, and why won’t it leave you alone?

All the inner work you keep telling yourself you’ll do, as soon as there is time to do it, when the time is right, when all falls into place.

What drives you to end up in the places you do, and what is it that makes life worthwhile to you? What is in the eyes of your heart that attracts your attention to move you where you go?

And of all the places and things that have gone that have brought you to here, what is it that makes you take the next step?

Is life a merry-go-round, a funfair where all is laughs? Do you work the week long to enjoy the week’s end? Perhaps you are waiting for something and meanwhile you persevere in all the mundane. Is this how life should be?

Have you ever said to yourself that you’ll give it one more week and if things don’t change for the better then that’s it, I’m out of here, I’m not going to stay where I don’t belong.

And as the week passes you look around and really see what you’ve achieved and what is of worth. And perhaps a memory comes of something past, a warm sunny day where you felt that life was worth living, an achievement where you climbed that mountain and felt oh so good to gain the top.

Whatever it is it brings pause for thought that life has brought you something only you have known and experienced.

And so you take that thought with you down through that week, hanging on to it like some get out pass to the answer you’re looking for, the holy grail of a memory to save you.

But even that fades into insignificance as the hours pass and you look to the future where you see only more of the same.

But perhaps it is your heart that is feeling bleak amongst all the mundane, and that if only you could spice it up maybe things would be better.

But as life rushes at you whether you’re asleep or awake, busy or otherwise you find you only have you and the breaths you breathe in the moment you live.

And when the seven days are over and somehow another seven come to be known you find the next step to carry on, for when all’s said and done, when you boil it all down, you find there is no more than the moment you live in, that’s all you’ve ever had, and really, that’s all there is and all that’s needed to live.

This all sounds somewhat familiar... :)

Pretty spot-on sentiments on all those things we enjoy, dread and ignore. A day in the life!

Yes, thank you; if I strive with my eyes fully open I'm more likely to see something...

Your lovely insight reminds me that all we have is the gift of the present moment and that’s why it’s called the present,
