Nothing Grows In Winter, Right?

Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful..

On the day of this storm, the yard, and gardens were covered in snow:

Above is my normal area for gardens.. and Below, is my Raspberry Bush. Hard to imagine, picking anything from either of these places, right?

The days of heat, and bright sunny days are long gone, months away, to be exact. ALTHOUGH, the good news is each day gets longer from here on out. Still, with 6 inches (15cm) of snow on the ground, I am not exactly rushing outside to plant, till, or pick a thing.

BUT, dear gardeners, all is not lost! There's still growing going on! Inside, in my basement, I have some Grow Lights Set Up! AND, yes, I am growing... check out these plants:

Some Basil and Dark Opal Basil Above, and Buttercrunch Lettuce, (right) and Oregano (Left) Below. I suspect the first of the Buttercrunch will be ready for eating this coming weekend! I have another container of lettuce, just recently germinated, to be picked in 3 weeks. I will keep rotating these two containers, until I can plant greens outside, this spring.

The rest of the grow lights are clear and getting ready for seeds. Come February 15th, I have about 6 or 8 types of Pepper plants I will start indoors, to give the plants a chance to get good roots developed. Come March 1st, some tomatoes will start, perhaps as many as 10 types, with at least 2, usually 4, and sometimes as many as 8 of each type of Tomato. Soon after, I will start many other vegetable types, including cucumber, squash, zucchini, onions, and more...

...Get yourselves ready, Gardeners for an upcoming #GroVid22 Challenge!

There will be more details coming soon, but, #dreemport is partnering with a community, to announce and upcoming #GroVid22 Challenge. I don't want to spoil the surprise, but STAY TUNED FOR MORE GROWING GOODNESS!

Happy New Planting and Cheers,
BluefinStudios

Always, I strive to give back
To the animals and birds around me
to put more plants in than I take out
And be a good steward for the world around me!

nothing like fresh herbs to add to food dishes ... is there any difference in flavour between grown inside and outdoors? I know there is always a difference between hot house tomatoes and field grown. Although those grown with hydroponics are hard to tell they were grown inside.

thanks, the first day or two of snows are simply Stunning. Very pretty, until it gets a little dirty/muddy.

But the garden really does love the snow, too. It helps to replenish the soil. Also, the cold helps for what most plants in my native area. It's called Cold Stratifying. Fruits NEED a certain number of cold hours per year, and seed for certain things do too.
