Senstless Family 2021 Summer Road Trip Day 3 - Exploring Kitty Hawk - Outer Banks NC

(Edited)

This is by Far the biggest road trip we have taken!!!

I know this happened back in May, but I am finally able back to blogging and decided this would be a fun one to revisit and share. We did a 10 day road trip - and drove over 3000 miles!! We had a ton of fun and did something new everyday.

Bad news is I some how lost my log book for the trip that tracked times, miles and gallons of gas bought. Oh well. I do have the financial break down. Even with driving, free hotels, and not eating out.... I still don't want to revisit the carnage of spending.

Daily Tradition - We always see the Sun Rise while on vacation!

That's right, Mrs. Senstless and I are crazy. If we are on vacation and paying extra money to stay on a beach, or I guess anywhere... then we feel like we should be up for the sunrise. That and we are always up at that time at home anyways, and I sleep like crap 95% of the time in a hotel anyways. Too noisy, with crappy beds, AC units, drunk idiots slamming doors. Why do I like traveling again.... sometimes I forget the reality vs allure of traveling.

Breakfast!! Duck Donuts is Life Changing

Duck Donuts is amazing. The donuts are all made to order, fresh each and every time. To be honest I was really overwhelmed the first time ordering. Donuts, plus frosting, plus toppings. I will say every combination we tried was amazing, we got a bunch of different kinds and cut them up and shared them, cinnamon sugar donuts, bacon maple, lemon, etc. I had heard about these on a Podcast or two.. and they far exceeded the my expectations. requesting

After donuts we had a little beach time - walking and exploring the beach. Just enjoying the waves, swimming and hanging out. It is always relaxing to just walk the beach and find shells and enjoy the weather!

Bodie Island Light House

We took a tour of the Bodie Island Lighthouse. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the tour. They go on sale every day and they sell out quickly. There only about 10-20 per hour they allow to go through, to keep the load off the stair case and only allow on person on each floor at a time until they reach the top..

There were some pretty impressive views from the top!!!

Took a flight in Cessna 206

We took a flight for the first time - we got all 4 of us on the plane at the same time. It was really really fun, and I swore I took picture but I can't find a single one on my phone. It must have been my wifes phone I was holding at the time. I am losing my mind that I can't find any.

We turned down the oppertunity to take a ride on a bi-plane but we could only do two at a time. After seeing the plane, I really wish I had taken the oppertunity. I will make sure if I ever get the chance to do it again, I will totally sign up for a bi-plane!!

Day 1 - Drive to Sandusky

  • 575 Miles
  • 9 Hrs

Day 2 - Drive to Kitty Hawk

  • 678 Miles
  • 12 Hrs

**Day 3 Explore Kitty Hawke

  • Sunrise
  • Beach time
  • Bodie Island Lighthouse
  • Airplane ride

Vacation Stats

  • Total Miles - 1253
  • Total Time Driving - 21 Hrs

Thanks for the beer @senstless, I always loved flying Cessna's, the smaller 152 Aerobat was rated for acrobatic maneuvers and had a G meter on the dashboard, beautiful planes!😀
