Today's coin reveal post features the 1oz .9999 Silver 2018 Britannia Coin with 'Oriental Border' struck by The Royal Mint of the United Kingdom.

This coin is the limited edition 2018 Silver Britannia 1oz that features a unique 'Oriental Border'. The 'Oriental Border' version of the Britannia coin had a limited mintage of only 100,000 coins.

1. Coin Story

This coin was bought as part of the same collection of coins that included the Queen's Beast coin featured yesterday.

When I bought this coin online, I did not look closely enough, so I thought it was just your typical bullion Britannia coin which I have a number of. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up the coin to look at it, at first I was confused as it looked like a Britannia, but it looked different at the same time.

It was only when I compared it to one of my existing Britannia's that I noticed the differences. I then did a bit of research on the coin and realised it is a limited edition coin. I am not too sure if these limited edition 2018 Britannia's attract any additional premium on the secondary market, but I am not too fussed either way as it is one that will go into my keeper stack.

2. Coin Packaging

When purchasing single Britannia coins from the mint they come in a plastic coin capsule or flip, which could be chosen when ordering online.

For larger orders in bulk the coins were delivered in sealed plastic tubes. There are 20 coins per tube, with a total of 20oz per tube.

For buyers that were interested in buying a whole box of Britannia's, they come with 20 tubes per box, for a total of 400oz per box.

4. Coin Design

a. Reverse Design

The reverse of the 1oz coin depicts the Philip Nathan 1987 image of Britannia set against a radial background, with the Oriental Border.

The design includes an inscription 'BRITANNIA', the coin weight 'ONE OUNCE', the purity '999 SILVER' and the date '2018'.

The designer's surname, NATHAN, IS positioned below the date on the coin.

a. Obverse Design

The obverse of the coin portrays the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the words 'ELIZABETH II', 'D·G·REG·F·D' and the denomination of '2 POUNDS'.

Conclusion:

In summary, this coin was a nice surprise purchase. I thought I was receiving a standard bullion Britannia, but I ended up with a unique limited edition Britannia. I still need to do further research into this coin to see if it attracts a nice premium on the secondary market, but that exercise will be educational only, as I have already decided that this little beauty will be going into my personal keeper stack.

What are your thoughts of this coin its design? Do you prefer it to the original Britannia coin design? How many of you out there are Britannia stackers? 😁

I couldn't help that this 2018 Oriental Border Britannia is so similar to the original British Trade dollar.
