Learning to Quilt! Part 2

avatar

Yesterday I made a little more progress on my first quilt. My generous friend and neighbor, Ms. B., once again came to my assistance with offers of leftover batting, as well as several fabric choices for the backing. My goal for the day was to cut and sew the previously-selected border, which I successfully accomplished.

I'd have to stand on the bed to get a straight photo, and that didn't seem like a good idea. Please pardon the slightly-funky angle of the photo.

Having completed that part of the project (and with zero glitches!), I forged ahead and cut the batting. For some reason, I had a really hard time wrapping my head around that part. It was a larger piece of fabric, and I am accustomed to working with 4-5 yard lengths when sewing a garment. But I had to get one edge straight and square before I could begin cutting the appropriate length for the batting, and it took me some time to figure out how to go about it.

There has to be an easier way!

But I did get that batting cut out, and now I need to find the time to cut the backing. Soon, I hope!

Hello @scribblingramma! You’ve got a great start on your quilt! I love those colors and patterns you are using.

I would like to invite you to join #NeedleWorkMonday with the @needleworkmonday community. Every Monday us needlers get together to share our work, patterns, tips and ideas as we support one another and inspire the Steemit blockchain.

On Monday’s we use the #needleworkmonday tag and on all other days we use the #needlework tag without the word Monday attached. We encourage everyone to share the process of their work with photos as you have done above. We love seeing a project come to life. You can check out the tag to see what other needle artists shared last week. We do a weekly curation and are currently running a community challenge called 'Project Warm A Soul'.

For more information on what we do and our posting guidelines please visit our FAQs.

Thank you :)
