Tech...

It's not for girls they say.

Is that so?
The first computer came into my life around 1990. It was one sponsored by work and the government had a hand in it too. If you wanted to move it you had to push a hard plastic disk into it to keep it (whatever it is) save. There was no internet connection or option. I taught myself to type on it fast and some games were on it as well.
I've had a computer since that moment, bought or build for me.

A video player-recorder arrived earlier
It was around 1984 and extremely expensive. I paid about 1800 dutch florin (hfl/gulden) for it. It was a Blaupunkt and of course, I had t.v. I still have the videos I recorded at that time: t.v. series, films and cartoons. A video recorder-player (VHS) and DVD player I still have and it works.

My eldest loved to watch t.v. but was scared to touch it. She screamed at the top of her lungs as a two-year-old if I told her to push the button to change the channel. No, we didn't have a remote control in those days and watched t.v. with an antenna, I pulled out of it.

At that time I had no telephone.
There was a phonebox in front of the apartment where I lived.

My first internet connection at home I had around 1990.
You had to dial in. It was expensive but looking back the best connection I ever had.
At that time I had a telephone (a landline), fax, a buzzer (I made a long list with codes so my children good text me if they needed something) and my first mobile phone (Motorola).

My third child showed interest in tech at a very young age (two years old) even managed to make my computer no longer recognize it's the hard disk. T.v., video, tape- and video recorders, were no mystery to it.
Gaming and drawing with a mouse on the computer turned out to be the biggest hobbies.
She hoped for someone to game with her but the elderly siblings were not interested.
I tried but me driving Mario cart is good for Mario crashing within 20 seconds.

This NES is mine. I bought it second-hand a few years ago to play duckhunt. It works fine and yes, we still have an old t.v.

My daughter had to wait about 17 years till the next gamer arrived.
She's still angry she had to wait so long. The bus-kid spent many hours on her bed watching her playing and drawing in complete silence.

This Xbox was bought second-hand for 5 euro. The bus-kid intended to give it to his sister but she already had one and kept it himself. I am afraid I have two kids collecting consoles now.

My first mobile phone.

It was around 1996 and a Motorola. You could walk around with it and didn't need a landline.
My next mobile phone was the Samsung duos. I never really understood how the connection with the internet worked. I used it for calling, texting, making photos and mainly bought it because 2 sim cards fitted in. I still have it. My youngest uses it to call or text me in case of need.
The modern smartphone so familiar to most of us today I bought for myself and my daughter 4 years ago. My daughter still has it mine was the "Monday made one" and broke within a short time.

Computers

After the first one, I always had one. Bought, specially build for me.
I had a watercooler around 2003 and the first laptop not much later.

This laptop was shit. I used it for bookkeeping only but it was broke within one month. I can tell you it wasn't cheap at all and always been a pain. My daughter kind of fixed it and used it for downloading films/torrents and now the bus-kid tries to make it operate with Linux.

We still have the Toshiba or I should say have it back.

I bought another laptop a Compaq/hp just for me.
It was a small notebook I traveled around with and abroad and I miss it. I used it for at least 9 years. As it got broke I took the hard disk out.

The next laptop was a Compaq/HP too.**
It nearly lived as long as the little one. The broke thing is still here. I have doubts the bus-kid can repair it but it can give it a try and study it.

The only other laptops I bought were for my children.
Same with the computer. Although my daughter is a great animator she still works with an old computer and laptop and even has her very first computer. The blue screens are a problem and she had to repair her computer many times but we simply do not have the money to buy something good. Perhaps one day. This child of mine is worth it and does not waste anything or needs the newest brand at once.

I had it all.

  • Walkman
  • radio
  • tv
  • Discman
  • tape recorder
  • kitchen engines
  • tumble dryer
  • dishwasher
  • cars with cruise control, etc
  • a high tech washing machine,
  • fax
  • phone, etc, etc.

These days are over.
I get tired of everything that needs to be charged or plugin.
We no longer have:

  • a computer
  • dishwasher
  • tumble dryer
  • fridge
  • microwave
  • high tech washing machine or car
  • an electric stove and oven.

I try to keep it simple, as simple as possible.
High tech stands for high costs if it gets broke. My power, what comes out of the socket, is not steady, it's frequently shut off which means everything gets broke fast and batteries do not last long.

I still have electronics to help me out.

  • a simple washing machine (the most simple I could find)
  • a water cooker (only 600 watts/age 10 years)
  • an electric wok (a broke present I repaired)

  • a second-hand toaster
  • a fryer
  • a mobile router
  • a navigation system (my Garmin is over 10 years old) and...
  • my latest help is a jumpstarter!

A great help not only if your car's battery is low but alsi if the power is shut off again. There's a great light in it so we have extra light plus it can charge a phone.

Look @olivia08 it's red!

Not as a child bus as a single mom with 3 little children who had to take care of themselves and eachother because I had two jobs it was a great help around 1994- 2008. 💕

That is good too. They said Dutch people were slow and they tried to push us into it in all kind of ways, same with the mobile phone. In a very short time many learned. They even gave lessons to elderly people. I hope your connection is better than mine. 💕

I only here about great fast connections, 5G but most of the time I have 2g or 3g. They better fix that first, invest in the network. Enjoy your day. 💕

We have 4G, but I can’t afford it. 1gb is about 3$

@fredkese We pay here the same. They should give 4G but the senders are not strong enough so you beer ribs 3 or 2 or nothing.
That's extremely expensive what you pay. I pay for 8 gb per month but noticed if I use more (30 or so) they do not charge me extra so I don't dare to leave. The other two providers do or cut you down so you have nothing. ❤️

I also use the cheaper version. 1gb is 1$, but it’s not 4G

Had that Nintendo, too. And I remember a TV set that looked much like a big wooden crate. It had a wooden body, indeed.

We had that tv too, black and white. I wish I could still find one. My kid loves it. I once saw someone who build the computer screen into it....an.aquarium might look great too.

Soon these are all collector's items. 💕

I never had it all, l only have mobile phone. We had no TV at home when I was a child no radio. At night I just hear the sounds of the frogs in the fond, saw the fireflies on the tree, the moon at night. In day time, I saw the sun the birds chirping and insect flying.

We had a radio but it never played.

My sister became one for her birthday from the money my grandfather gave her for her birthday.
He gave me money too and I wanted a recordplayer.

The time I mean with "we had it all" was about 1997. At that time I was a single working mom with 3 children and two jobs. So this was not in my childhood.

I thought it was during yuoour childhood. You have a good life when you have your own family absolutely for your children.

Hi Dear Friend @wakeupkitty.

TThis idea that you have had about reducing the consumption of technology is practiced by many people in the world.

It has many positive aspects, not only in terms of the home economy, which is protected in a certain way since you would reduce many expenses (as you have been able to explain it to us). But it also has a very important ecological note.
You are decreasing your electricity consumption and leaving your contribution to a greener planet.

As for the first title in your post:

It's not for girls they say.

I thought you were going to refer to that retrograde mentality that girls can't perform like boys. I really enjoyed the reading.
Thanks for sharing.

All best, Piotr.

@crypto.piotr Thank you for your comment I appreciate it. I doubt we leave a greener planet behind. One electric car is using more electricity than 20 households?! Twenty can you imagine that?! A former Dutch minister said electric car drivers are antisocial because of these facts while (elderly) people sit in the cold underneath a blanket...

I hope to consume way less in the future, not buying, less eating, no waste and reduce the energy needed.

I hope you and your family are okay. ❤️

It's me again @wakeupkitty

I hope to consume way less in the future, not buying, less eating, no waste and reduce the energy needed.

Less eating? OMG. Why would you like to eat less? :)

ps.
I would need to ask you for little favour. Recently I've decided to join small contest called "Community of the week" and I desribed our project.hope hive/community. Would you mind helping me out and RESTEEM this post - just to get some extra exposure? Your valuable comment would be also appreciated.

Link to my post: on steemit or on steempeak

Thanks :)
Yours, Piotr

I try to visit it if they let me in. It's still a mess online and partiko is 😭

I ate enough in my life and am sure with way less food one can stay alive too besides @davidke20 work on being "slim and sexy" 😁

You prefer to eat/consume more? 💕

My eating habit isn't getting me any slimmer. Perhaps if you seen @crypto.piotr in real person, he's like half of my width despite he's like a head taller than me 😂

That's not the right spirit. You can come over here. If I feed you you will lose weight for sure.
Perhaps @crypto.piotr has not enough food to eat?

Btw my kid is 1.78 and has a weight of 50 kilograms with jeans and pull over on. That will change one day, although I hope not. It was a struggle to make it lose weight. It was a big luck it suddenly started to grow.

Do not forget: We are slim and sexy at the end of this year! 💕

Interesting @esteemapp does not edit at all. I changed "sim" into slim and still see "sim" after saving.

#esteemapp has been suffering to find a proper node to rely on. Many of those witnesses are not stable(for some obvious reason I believe). So I guess that's what make the edit unusable. I can't even reply comment the whole morning with #esteemapp.

I used steemit.com and next esteem the rest no longer works. Through the day it only became worse. The witnesses are the ones burning this platform down.
