 - "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”

Ref:Philippians 2:5-7

Many times in relationships, the first person to apologize seems to be the one who takes the blame for an argument, whether or not he or she was at fault.

Similarly, when you’re driving on the road and someone hits you, if you don’t respond angrily to the person, they might want to turn it around and pin it on you.

If we want to be honest, we would agree that society is structured in such a way that makes it difficult for one to be humble.

More often than not, when you bring yourself down, people take advantage of you, as a result, we naturally put ourselves in a position where we don’t want to be taken for granted; pride steps in without us knowing.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”
Philippians 2:3-7

The verses above say that Jesus took the form of a servant. Imagine you wake up tomorrow in the body of a street beggar? or the body of a pig? Eww right?

If you were asked to choose, would you even consider it? Yet, God himself took on human flesh and accepted to die in the most inhumane way possible for you and I.

What excuse do you have not to walk in humility? See Jesus powerful words:

"No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father"
John 10:18

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23

If you look closely at the virtues listed in in the above scripture, you’d realize that they are all intertwined. This is because every virtue there is love expressing itself in different ways.

Someone who walks in love is humble, patient, kind etc. When we see someone who is saved walking in pride, our response should be to point such a person to the word.

This is beyond behaviour modification – it is about walking in the new creation realities. We are in Christ and so we must behave in line with our nature.

It is, however, important to note that you cannot truly be humble if you draw your sense of self-worth or validation from how people treat you or from your status in life.

You must draw your confidence from Christ. That way, you don’t have to react angrily when people don’t treat you the way they should.

You can live free, humbling yourself, because you know who you are in Christ and your identity isn’t dependent on anyone.
