February 17, 2020--Practice Blog

Fun day, remembering what I looked like pre-beard.

The day started with a flurry of work, trying to get stuff together for class. Music History we looked at the string quartet and the Emperor Quartet of Haydn. Appreciation was a bit disappointing in that the lecture was on Mozart and Comic Opera and Marriage of Figaro, and students decided early on that this wasn't important. I don't think I recovered. There was a committee meeting that could have been 1/2 hour shorter if we had just stayed on the schedule (which after 20 minutes of straying from the schedule I demanded we stick to) before going off to practice organ, then piano. Choir rehearsal followed. Luckily, I had the evening off from Chanters rehearsal, but I did have to practice some choir octavos for a concert on Thursday. Studied for a bit, uploaded my Actifit and here I am.

On the organ, I worked through BWV 620 and started 621. 620 is much harder than I expected and will have to spend some quality time with it this week before playing it on Sunday. I also ran through 616-619 for a concert on Thursday as well as Brahms Chorale Prelude on Herzliebster Jesu. Finished the practice with some good time on Vierne Finale from First Symphony.

On the piano, I mostly worked on choir accompaniment stuff for Thursday and next Tuesday's concerts.
