Day 27.

Not really a good day for practicing. I was only able to squeeze in an hour at the piano and 1/2 hour at the organ. There are reasons.....

The day started with teaching classes. Between my classes I was able to do some piano practice. After my second class, I was supposed to teach a piano lesson. I was hungry and didn't want to take it out on my student, so we rescheduled to tomorrow. Ran some errands around town and ended up at the church to get in my 1/2 hour organ practice. Afterwards, I went to set up and begin cooking for a Robert Burns Appreciation Dinner that I have been trying to arrange for a year now. Cooked Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties. Played a CD of Bagpipe music--yes, a CD. Read four poems (Ode to A Haggis, Selkirk Prayer, To a Mouse, and Scots Wha Hae). Had a Cranachan for dessert and we ended the evening with a bit of Scotch and singing Auld Lang Syne. I thought it went pretty well. We want to make it an annual thing here. Need to learn more about how these evenings work, though.

On the organ, I worked on BWV 617 and 618. 617 I can play through at a moderate speed (probably 60% of actual speed). I began to learn the notes on 618 today. The notes mention that the canon part in the manuals should be played on a separate manual than the moving parts. Any insight into this, hive mind? I also worked on the Hindemith second sonata first movement.

On the piano, I reinforced the memory work on Beethoven Op. 10 No. 2 second and third movement.
