June 10, 2020--Practice blog in the time of the virus

A normal day. We had a maintenance man come to our house to install a new microwave. Since I wasn't sure how long that would take, I practiced piano through the installation. I followed this up with some work on my computer before driving to the other side of town for some organ practice. Came home in time to prepare for a Zoom piano lesson with a student. Made hamburgers for dinner and watched Solo: A Star Wars Movie (we are watching them all in chronological [not released] order). Trying to get my wife reoccupied with them because she hasn't seen the last one yet.

On the piano, I worked on Sibelius' Romance Op. 24, no. 9. I discovered this piece yesterday while watching a presentation on Scandinavian and Nordic song of the Romantic era. I may try to find some older works by North European composers that I don't know. We shall see. Right now, I am occupied with Sibelius. I also practiced the Chopin Waltz Op. 34 no. 2 and started trying to memorize it. I continued my practice of memorizing with a series of intermediate works from Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Chopin.

On the organ, I worked on and recorded BWV 634 for the secrets of Organ Playing competition. You can find that here:

Luckily, it is very similar to BWV 633. I did try to play it at a faster tempo with slightly different registration. I also worked on and recorded the 5 Kyrie from the Couperin Mass for the Convents (recording above).
