June 4, 2020--Practice blog in the time of the virus

A productive day. Began with a dog grooming appointment. Had to rush home because we had an inspection for some foundation issues. Luckily there were none. Instead we are going to try and fix up the drive way, stairway, and sidewalk in front of our house. Not as expensive as I thought it would be. While the inspection was going on, I got some piano practicing in. Afterwards, I had some chicken for lunch and went to the church to practice organ. Taught a piano lesson from 2 to 3, and came home to find the keyboards for my Hauptwerk set up came in today! Now, I am waiting on the rack and to see if I can find a decent Mac Airbook to run the program on. No rush. Taught another lesson from 4:30 to 5. And that gets me here. Going to make pork chops in apple cream for dinner, maybe with rice.

On the piano, I am working on learning and memorizing a series of intermediate level short Romantic piano pieces--several Mendelssohn Songs without Words (Tarantella, Venetian Gondola song, and two others), some Schumann pieces (the first piece of Kinderszenen and Traumerei), and some Chopin works (Two Chopin Mazurkas Op. 7). Trying to build up my memory. For the most part all of the pieces are playable for memory with a couple glitches. I also worked on an arrangement of Down to the River to Pray by Mark Hayes.

On the organ, I recorded the 4th movement Kyrie from the Mass of the Convents by Couperin (above--sorry about the Dulzian, but it goes out of tune very quickly), BWV 633 which I recorded for the secrets of Organ Playing Contest:

Worked on a Chorale Prelude on Ein Feste Berg by Kauffmann, and the Fugue of BWV 536.

The time to learn new skills is now! Everyone working from home or not working should have no excuse not to have learned something new!

Way to go on taking advantage of the times my friend!
