May 30, 2020--Practice blog in the time of the virus

Slept in a bit today, getting up around 9:30. Spent some time checking online things and got a shower before heading to the church to practice. Practiced organ for about an hour and a half. Came home and did some spring cleaning. I have found that a traumatic event is the perfect time to do a major change in your life. Yesterday, I was informed by the Vice President of Academic Affairs at my school that the school I work at will no longer offer a music degree. This doesn't affect my position too much as most of my job revolves around teaching General Education classes. Music History was already on the chopping block for the next year, and the choir and jazz band is still intended to be offered. That being said, it will be difficult to find students interested in music beyond a passing expectation of passing a Gen Ed class. I still have a job and health insurance (we are in the states). So, my wife and I spent the day divesting our house of lots of older material--and finding out where mice where living. Journals and magazines in our basement dating back to 2003 were packed up and taken to the recycling center. I still have the upstairs to clean out, but that will be another day. Made dinner of grilled chicken thighs, squash, and rice. Watched Star Wars: the Clone Wars for about an hour and a half, and came to write this blog while watching a fascinating autobiography by Graham Johnson through the Songmakers 2020 festival.

On the organ, I worked on and recorded BWV 632 (see above and here: https://peakd.com/secretsoforganplaying/@jeremyowens9501/secrets-of-organ-playing-contest-week-74-submission-herr-jesu-christ-dich-zu-uns-wend-from-orgelbuchlein-bwv-632-by-j-s-bach), BWV 631 for tomorrow's postlude, Creator Spirit for Prelude tomorrow, ran through the first three movements of the Mass of the Convents by Couperin to keep them in my fingers, the first three pieces in part one of @partitura edition of Kauffmann's Harmonische Seelenlust.
