How did I get here?

(Edited)

I joined shortly after the July 4th launch. At the time, I was on the Dash slack. As I've mentioned before ...

I was watching The Daily Decrypt when Amanda B. Johnson was going into Bitshares Prediction Markets. So I looked into that and got all excited about Bitshares. But then I saw that Dan Larimer was abandoning Bitshares and starting something called STEEM. I thought it was stupid so I stopped paying attention. A few months later, @thedashguy mentioned STEEM on the Dash slack so I took a peek and realized that what I ignored was actually pretty cool.

Previously, I did work on the OpenBazaar ruby client. It was my first real ruby gem. A gem is what you call a ruby library, which is itself a generalized tool used by developers to expand functionality of their apps. So my OpenBazaar gem just enabled other ruby developers to work with OpenBazaar.

When I realized that Steem posts were based on Markdown, eventually I got the bright idea to re-post my OpenBazaar README file as a blog entry:

https://steemit.com/@inertia/openbazaar-api-ruby-client

I've been pretty encouraged by the community.

Why am I still here?

You people are just so fun. And the ones that aren't fun (you know who you are) are still engaging. I've been in a few communities, yet other than Steem, there isn't one where I wake up in the morning wondering what happened while I was asleep.

Even in extended bear markets, there's something to do here. Something new. Or some new bandwagon.

Some day we'll even get on the map ...

Best trivia [Randall] learned while working on this: 'Man, Farmville is so huge! Do you realize it's the second-biggest browser-based social-networking-centered farming game in the WORLD?' Then you wait for the listener to do a double-take.

Farm games. Why not make one on steem. I remember bitshares base farm game using seed token, it makes me excited. However, it doesn't last. Developer abandoned the game or perhaps ran away.

I totally reach for Steem first thing. People should not be having fun whilst I am asleep!

I bet that map has changed a lot in 10 years. Some sites have died off and others have sprung up. Steem is still tiny and not growing significantly. I have been saying we just need a few influencers to come over. Some of them could easily double the active users if a fraction of their followers joined up.

I agree 100%. Look at all the folks that @jerrybanfield brought over with him. Although he is not very active I am still getting automatic upvotes from him (well my posts are pretty good quality, if not interesting, most times).

Man that map is a cool way of looking at things. I wonder where Steem or even just blockchain based social media would show up on there?

My guess is one of those tiny islands surrounding the sea of memes. It would probably be appropriate to be over there as well. LOL
