Los Antiguos (parte 2)

―¿Está verificado lo que dicen en el reporte de los exploradores, llegado del Brazo de Norma? ―preguntó Saul, con una mirada de expectativa en su rostro. La noticia de la que, por pura casualidad, se había enterado, lo excitaba más que encontrar a Andrómeda; evidencia de la posible existencia de otra especie inteligente, tecnológicamente avanzada, en la vía láctea, aparte de los humanos y los Goei y por supuesto los ahora aliados Inus.

―Al parecer está confirmado ―respondió Samantha, encargada de realizar el resumen de los reportes enviados por los exploradores del brazo de Norma y del Escudo Centauro, para la redacción de la Gaceta de la Academia de Palas―. Según entiendo ya se dirige una nave de rescate para transportar los restos a la estación del puente BN34, al parecer ha causado mucho revuelo el descubrimiento, no eres el único interesado, ya otras cinco personas han venido a preguntarme lo mismo que tú.

―¿Cómo hago, para viajar al Brazo de Norma?, quiero estar allá, cuando la lleven ―los ojos de Saul brillaban intensamente.

―No te sabría decir, habla con el comité rector, al parecer están preparando, a petición del Parlamento, una misión de expertos para revisar el hallazgo ―respondió Samantha.

―Excelente, tengo que estar en esa misión ―comentó Saul y salió prácticamente corriendo por los pasillos del edificio de la facultad, camino a la rectoría de la academia ―. Gracias Samantha ―gritó en su carrera de salida.

Una semana más tarde, tras negociar impartir varios seminarios sobre astro arqueología e integrar al menos diez doctorandos a la línea de investigación, que también prometió abrir, con los hallazgos que realizara durante la misión; Saul Smith, uno de los principales expertos en astro arqueología, veía hecho realidad el sueño de su vida, e iba camino al encuentro con la primera evidencia de una civilización alienígena de un pasado remoto, que en realidad podría brindar información sobre ella.

El viaje tardaría cuarenta días, durante los cuales, atravesarían quince puentes, lo que resultaba bastante molesto para Saul, pues no solía viajar tales distancias y cruzar los puentes le hacían sentirse particularmente mal. Para quién no había ido más allá de Susanoo, alejarse de toda la región galáctica poblada por la humanidad, resultaba una experiencia abrumadora.

A su llegada, encontraron un intenso revuelo en la estación. Fueron citados de inmediato a la sala de consejo, donde el director de la misión militar les comunicó la nueva noticia. A doce años luz del planeta donde fueron encontrados los restos de la nave, en otro planeta, fueron encontradas las ruinas de una ciudad hundida en el océano y definitivamente no era humana.

-Is it true what they say in the scouting report, coming from Norma's Arm, - asked Saul, with an expectant look on his face. The news that, by pure chance, he had heard about, excited him more than finding Andromeda; evidence of the possible existence of another intelligent, technologically advanced species in the Milky Way, apart from humans and Goei and of course the now Inus allies.

-It seems to be confirmed, - answered Samantha, in charge of the summary of the reports sent by the explorers of Norma's arm and the Centaurian Shield, for the writing of the Pallas Academy Gazette-. As I understand it, a rescue ship is already going to transport the remains to the BN34 bridge station, it seems that the discovery has caused a lot of commotion, you are not the only one interested, already five other people have come to ask me the same thing as you.

-How can I, to travel to the Norma Arm, I want to be there, when they take her - Saul's eyes were shining brightly.

-I wouldn't know, talk to the steering committee, it seems they are preparing, at the request of Parliament, a mission of experts to review the finding,- replied Samantha.

-Excellent, I have to be on that mission, -saul commented and practically ran through the corridors of the faculty building on his way to the academy's rectory. -Thank you, Samantha, -he shouted as he left.

A week later, after negotiating several seminars on astro-archaeology and integrating at least ten doctoral students into the line of research, which he also promised to open, with the findings he made during the mission, Saul Smith, one of the leading experts in astro-archaeology, saw his life's dream come true and was on his way to meet the first evidence of an alien civilization from the remote past, which could actually provide information about it.

The trip would take forty days, during which time they would cross fifteen bridges, which was quite annoying for Saul, since he did not usually travel such distances and crossing the bridges made him feel particularly bad. For those who had not gone beyond Susanoo, getting away from the whole galactic region populated by humanity was an overwhelming experience.

Upon arrival, they found the station in turmoil. They were immediately summoned to the council room, where the director of the military mission informed them of the new news. Twelve light years from the planet where the remains of the ship were found, on another planet, the ruins of a city sunk in the ocean were found and it was definitely not human.
