Los Antiguos (parte 4)

El agua en la que estaban sumergidas las ruinas era completamente cristalina y poco profunda, la ciudad debió estar situada en medio del continente, una de las regiones de mayor altura, los satélites no habían encontrado otra población en todo el planeta, tal vez se trataba de una colonia en sus inicios o tal vez, sólo de una estación de minería o reabastecimiento para sus naves.

La delgadez de la atmósfera del planeta y la casi escasa presencia de oxígeno, aunado a la casi completa ausencia de oleaje y la inexistente actividad sísmica, contribuyó a conservar las ruinas, a la vez que dificultaba su datación.

La formación de capas de minerales en la superficie sumergida de los edificios, permitía datar que empezó a inundarse unos ciento ochenta millones de años en el pasado, sin embargo, la degradación de las edificaciones emergidas, expuestas a la extremadamente baja concentración de oxigeno y la muy baja ventosidad, indicaba que las construcciones debían tener al menos unos mil quinientos millones de años.

Al igual que lo sucedido con la sonda, las edificaciones parecían estar completamente construidas de los mismos bloques multifuncionales, pero lo más extraño eran sus dimensiones. Se trataba de construcciones bajas y muy amplias, sólo algunas pocas sobrepasaban los diez metros de altura y eran las que sobresalían de la superficie del océano y sus áreas interiores parecían estar acondicionadas para albergar grandes naves como la que se hallaba en la estación espacial, de la cual fueron encontradas al menos mil dentro de los edificios, cada una de ellas con aspecto y formas diferentes.

Todo el lugar parecía más un gigantesco hangar, que una ciudad, además de eso, al igual que lo ocurrido con la sonda estudiada en la estación, la ciudad carecía de cualquier resto biológico y su tecnología parecía tener huecos, no había plantas de procesamiento de desperdicios o de alimentos, no había electrónica computacional o de ningún otro tipo, ni redes eléctricas o acueductos, pareciese que toda la ciudad se trataba de un inmenso mecanismo, al que todo resto de electrónica se le había eliminado.

Mientras las sondas y sumergibles exploraban las ruinas, una nueva expedición se planificaba para acceder al planeta, donde se hallaron las nuevas ruinas y su impresionante sol negro; para esta misión se incorporaría un grupo de astrofísicos, provenientes de la academia de Heracles, así como la ya habitual presencia de los inus, cuya ya común proyección en forma de rostro, de rasgos genéricos, flotando en medio de la habitación, se había vuelto una presencia regular.

La misión al nuevo planeta, tendría como propósito no sólo estudiar las ruinas, sino, conocer, lo más a fondo posible, al peculiar cadáver estelar que éste orbita. Un tipo de estrella cuya existencia se creía formaba parte sólo de una hipótesis científica abandonada.

Las estrellas negras, por algún tiempo se consideraron una alternativa a la explicación a los agujeros negros, en el que la materia del núcleo de una estrella supergigante, en lugar de colapsar formando una singularidad, crea una polarización del vacío, cuya energía actúa generando presión e impidiendo el colapso, lo que provoca un objeto, que al igual que los agujeros negros, puede curvar tan intensamente el campo gravitacional, que es capaz de atrapar los rayos de luz, por lo que tendría una apariencia casi negra, pero a diferencia de los agujeros negros, las estrellas negras no son completamente negras, pues algunos de los rayos de luz que emiten pueden escapar de la intensa gravedad, dándoles un ligero resplandor rojo e infrarrojo.

La principal pregunta que debería responder la misión que exploraría este frio e inmisericorde mundo sería, si pudo prosperar una raza alienígena en él, o si, por el contrario, la presencia de este sol negro, era la causa de su actual ausencia.

The Ancients (part 4)

The water in which the ruins were submerged was completely crystalline and shallow, the city must have been located in the middle of the continent, one of the highest regions, the satellites had not found another population in the whole planet, maybe it was a colony in its beginnings or maybe just a mining or refueling station for their ships.

The thinness of the planet's atmosphere and the almost scarce presence of oxygen, together with the almost complete absence of waves and the inexistent seismic activity, contributed to the preservation of the ruins, while making it difficult to date them.

The formation of mineral layers on the submerged surface of the buildings, allowed to date that began to flood about one hundred eighty million years in the past, however, the degradation of the emerged buildings, exposed to the extremely low concentration of oxygen and very low wind, indicated that the constructions must have at least one thousand five hundred million years.

As with the probe, the buildings appeared to be completely constructed of the same multifunctional blocks, but the strangest thing was their size. They were low and very wide constructions, only a few of them were more than ten meters high and they were the ones that protruded from the surface of the ocean and their inner areas seemed to be conditioned to hold big ships like the one in the space station, of which at least a thousand were found inside the buildings, each one of them with different appearance and forms.

The whole place looked more like a gigantic hangar than a city, and besides that, just like what happened with the probe studied on the station, the city had no biological remnants whatsoever and its technology seemed to have holes in it, there were no waste processing plants or food processing plants, there was no computer electronics or any other type of electronics, no electrical networks or aqueducts, it seemed that the whole city was an immense mechanism, all the electronics had been removed.

While the probes and submersibles explored the ruins, a new expedition was planned to reach the planet, where the new ruins and its impressive black sun were found; for this mission a group of astrophysicists, coming from the academy of Heracles, would be incorporated, as well as the already habitual presence of the inus, whose already common projection in the form of a face, of generic features, floating in the middle of the room, had become a regular presence.

The purpose of the mission to the new planet would be not only to study the ruins, but also to get to know, as thoroughly as possible, the peculiar stellar corpse that it orbits. A type of star whose existence was believed to be part only of an abandoned scientific hypothesis.

Black stars, for some time were considered an alternative to the explanation of black holes, in which the matter of the nucleus of a supergiant star, instead of collapsing to form a singularity, creates a polarization of the void, whose energy acts to generate pressure and prevent the collapse, which causes an object, which like black holes, can bend the gravitational field so intensely that it is able to trap light rays, so it would appear almost black, but unlike black holes, black stars are not completely black, as some of the light rays they emit can escape the intense gravity, giving them a slight red and infrared glow.

The main question the mission exploring this cold and merciless world should answer would be whether an alien race could thrive on it or if the presence of this black sun was the cause of its current absence.
