SPS: Buy or Bye?

A lot of different opinions on my social feeds recently have been divided on SPS. Some say that it's time to say bye on this project, while others are looking to buy. These are my thoughts on the issue and are by no means financial advise!

Chart

At a cursory glance, the chart looks to be in a downtrend. There was a recent spike when the SPS roadmap article was announced a few weeks back, but now that the news has died down, so has the upward movement. For now, the chart suggests that it might maintain its current trend until some catalyst is introduced.

Bye Argument

With the recent downtrend, a lot of investors have said bye to this project as it has broken a lot of it's major supports. In addition, with the state of the overall crypto market also going on down, there are investors who are choosing to stay in fiat on the sidelines or invest in outliers. Sadly, SPS is not an outlier during this time period. Rather than watching their investments decrease by the day, some have opt to either Cut Loss as well.

Another major argument for the Bye is that SPS is currently being airdropped for free on a daily basis. When the SPS stops being airdropped, that's when those who've been waiting on the sideline will enter SPS.

In addition, given the overall crypto market, there are so many opportunities now to buy low. Everything is literally on sale, so most investors are looking to invest in BTC and other alt coins. Thus the Bye argument is completely understandable from an crypto enthusiast's perspective.

Buy Argument

If you look at the chart I drew, there's a 603% upside with an 80% downside! The downside is drawn from the value that the SPS was released is the private sale, while the upside is based on the highest point it reached during the most recent pump. I didn't plot it on the highest price ever, because that was way overhyped. The 1 USD price point is very reasonable for the medium term. With a 6x on the horizon in a few months, I think it's safe to say that the upside is definitely worth the risk.

Another major argument for the buy side is the SPS roadmap. You can check it out here: Splintershards (SPS) 2022 Roadmap. This is full of the reasons why SPS will be so important this year, and the thing I'm looking forward to the most here is the Riftwatchers.

So by buying SPS and staking them, you get this APR,

and you get vouchers corresponding to how many SPS you've staked. Remember, in the last Town Hall, it was mentioned that the majority of Riftwatchers will be purchasable with vouchers. No vouchers no packs. This definitely encourages people to stake more SPS. As the year progresses, those who have SPS would be glad they bought.

My Thoughts

I am extremely bullish on SPS despite it's downtrend. The way I see is that it will soon reach another bottom and some catalyst will enter (such as those mentioned in the SPS roadmap). The chart will then look something like this.

image.png

That's my assumptions and speculations. However, while that being a possibility, the question becomes why not enter when the wedge formation is completed? You can do that, but my strategy is to Dollar Cost Average. I have a certain amount of SPS that I am currently holding and I add to the bag every now and then. Some times I would sell some of the SPS airdrop and staking rewards, because there are other opportunities out there. The rest of the SPS I'm holding will just be for the long term HODL.

My Current SPS

In case you're wondering, I have been slowly accumulating SPS since I started playing Splinterlands, and I am certainly putting my money where my mouth is.

This investment earns me around 30+ SPS per day from staking, and 2.5 Vouchers a day.

Big fan of splinterlands, I won't consider selling SPS below $0.7. Same as you I accumulate SPS from the airdrop and I might even buy some more as the price seem very attractive at this time.
