Violet Ground Beetle - Carabus violaceus
Violet ground beetle (Carabus violaceus) is a shiny blue-violet beetle, its underside is black, with a metallic sheen.
The color varies from blue to purple, and can sometimes be blue-green to green or almost black.
The beetle is relatively large, reaching a size of 4 - 6 cm. Occurs on the soil surface, often in fallen leaves.
When he is worried, a strong stream of hot liquid splashes from his stomach. Care should be taken not to get the liquid in the eyes, as it may cause blindness.
The great blue runner is a predator, feeding on terrestrial mollusks, mainly naked snails.
In Bulgaria it is found in Southern Bulgaria, Strandzha, Central and Eastern Rhodopes and Stara Planina.
The photos are taken at southeastern Bulgaria, Aytos area.
