Virtual Reality Can Bring Us Together

The Internet was a wonderful innovation. It created a mecca where information can flow freely. Something posted in one part of the world is instantly visible everywhere. Anyone with an Internet connection can log on and read it.

Fake news is a term that captured a lot of attention of late. The problem is that, while the news might not have been fake, it was completely filtered. There were only a few choices from which to get the information and it was tilted to exactly how one wanted.

Today, with the advent of blogging and other innovations, we see the ability to post content that otherwise would not be seen. This brought us closer in the sense we are aware of some of the happenings that are taking place on the other side of the globe. There is a lot that takes place which the mainstream powers do not want revealed. The fact that half the planet has a phone with a camera means they are all deliverers of information.

The last couple decades saw us become front row spectators for some of the biggest tragedies. This is the power of information. People who post what is taking place at the ground level is beamed around the world for all to witness. A lot of it tugs at our heart strings.

The challenge is that, while information can stimulate emotions, it only goes so far. We can empathize to a degree when we are witnessing something on our computer screens yet there are limits. It is difficult to feel the situation when viewing it from the comfort of our own homes with the thermostat set at the right temperature while drinking our favorite beverage.

This all changes with virtual reality. While many talk about this technology in the area of gaming, which holds enormous potential, the truth is it will change our world. We are going to be a lot closer to many events than ever before.

Virtual reality aims to make experiences totally immersive. This means that one is not a witness with a front row seat but, rather, able to participate. Thus, we are not going to see the devastation of a hurricane or war but actually experience it.

This is going to be a new level of connection for humanity. It is also something that few are talking about when looking at this technology.

Empathy and gratitude are two of the most powerful emotions. We tend to have this is isolation, directing it towards those we are in contact with. At present, we will talk about how something is catastrophic when it is taking place on the other side of the world yet, the distance, insulates us from it.

That will not be the case in the future. Imagine newscasts that are completely immersive. We can then experience all firsthand as if we were there. Obviously, there is a lot of joy in the world and partaking in that is a wonderful thing. However, we cannot overlook the fact that many are living in horrific conditions due to nothing more than simply where they were born.

I believe this will make turning out backs on what is taking place much more difficult. Hopefully, it will stimulate action. With cryptocurrency, I foresee the ability to start making a difference through the financial end of things. As we lift people out of horrific financial conditions, the level of the problems raises up. Humanity is looking to move forward and this could be one of the paths it takes.

We are already seeing people from around the world start to help via cryptocurrency. There was an article on Bitcoinist this morning that mentioned how more than a thousand people in Venezuela are being fed each week from Bitcoin donations around the world.

https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-btc-donations-feeding-thousands-in-venezuela/

Many of us saw the videos and articles online about what is taking place on the ground in that country. However, do we really understand, especially those of us in the West? It is easy to talk about something but truly understanding it, that requires another level.

Virtual reality will enable us to move to that level. No longer are we going to be separated from those who are suffering. We will not be able to hide behind our gated communities and act like things are not happening.

Since we are dealing with a couple new technologies, it is hard to predict what will unfold. That said, it will be interesting it monitor how cryptocurrency and VR come together. Maybe we will be able to enter a virtual reality program which puts us on the ground in that country and we can pay for basic necessities right from the program.

It is easy to focus upon technology for gaming and how it will change business and society. Nevertheless, it is beneficial to start looking at how these technologies can better humanity. The power of technology comes from how it is used. Throughout history, our technologies, for the most part, brought us closer together.

This is only going to increase in the future. With all that is coming down the road, we are looking at a transformative decade. A lot of the individualism at the expense of the collective is going to fade away.

Wow, we are on the same vibe today! I just wrote and article very similar. Definitely also believe that empathy and compassion are much more important traits than we give them credit for. My focus was more on cooperation, vs greed, of course empathy is a big part of that.

Well said! VR is an evolutionary leap. We're still in the early stages, so the room to grow is phenomenal.

This is going to be a new level of connection for humanity.

I think western people are very disconnected already even though we all have apps and smartphones right now.

No longer are we going to be separated from those who are suffering. We will not be able to hide behind our gated communities and act like things are not happening.

So far we did not manage to bring Bitcoin to the unbanked in developping countries. Those ignorant elites in the gates communities will rather use VR to keep us in little boxes we call home in big cities. (eg: Ready Player One)
