Caveman communication

avatar

New messenger service coming to steem...Those headlines came to mind as I replied and commented over a period of several hours with a steem user. Alas, I feel my overactive mind was simply torturing itself and playing with my emotions...It's not going to happen...Not as far as I'm aware anyway. But whhhyyyyyyy!

But back to my caveman chat with that steem user.

This particular person is one I've not had much to do with over my 2.5 years here although as a curator for @curangel I've sent 5 of his posts for vote-love, voted on him myself and commented here and there many times. I don't know him well, although well enough to know he's an intelligent person with great knowledge, similar likes to myself and is someone I'd probably engage with well in real life. And yet...

...Here we are communicating like cavemen with everything we say emblazoned and immortalised on the blockchain for all to see.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and makes even less sense that there is not some form of private message, DM or messenger service here for users to communicate privately with. I think the righteous and legit @smithlabs would have appreciated it, and I know I would have. I mean, I'm old enough to recall Yahoo Messenger and that same archaic form of communication is used on Discord still, but could not something be incorporated into steem?

Now, we were not planning world domination or anything like that...Were not plotting to bring veganism to an end or ridding the world of the Kardashians once and for all, however wouldn't tat be awesome...But we were talking about...Shh, I have to say this quietly so as not to upset anyone...Guns. Shhh!

What, can't hear me? I said, GUNS.

Damn it, can't hear me still? I said...

GUNS!

We were talking about technical aspects, equipment, resources et cetera. We weren't saying anything wrong, or bad, so there's no real need to hide it away in a DM but...Still, I think it would have been better if we could chat in live time, in a private message, here on steem. I know it's not going to happen but how cool would it be?

Anyway, whilst on the topic of commenting I'd like to say how enjoyable it was to engage with the aforementioned user about a subject and hobby we are both interested in. As someone whose only social media outlet is steem I found it cool to go back and forth, even in this caveman-like manner, on various aspects of our interest and I especially got some enjoyment out of opening up some new concepts for him to think about - I assure you, shooting is an art and is very technical when all the peripheral elements are combined. So, despite the caveman communication technique I still managed to have fun.

I am yet to understand why someone would leave a simple one word answer to a comment on their blog, or none at all, when there is some much to gain from engaging with more alacrity. Alas, I'll still get the simple "thank you" to replies I post and I guess I should be content at least that I even got that. Go figure though right? Why not engage?

I wonder if said user above and I would sit in a pub over a beer, G&T or soda and engage as well. Certainly now we know each other somewhat...But if we didn't? Isn't steem great.

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud here and don't expect anything at all to come of it, except for maybe some I.T. expert explaining slowly, and ineffectively, about why it can't be done. I'm a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to I.T. stuff.

I hope y'all are having great day or night depending where on the planet you may be...And if you're not...Well, turn that shit around and make your life great!

Thanks for reading.

Haha, you're Vegimited-up bro, so you can Aussie-accent all you want!

Just some thoughts I had since my chat with smithlabs. It's just so odd that we can't engage here more effectively.

Also, I think you'd have a hypnotic reading voice...Smooth, dulcet-toned... 😂

Hello dear friend @galenkp.

I certainly also support your opinion of the need for a steem chat service.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and makes even less sense that there is not some form of private message, DM or messenger service here for users to communicate privately with.

But, in fear of being wrong, I must ask you:
Do you know the Steemit Chat?
https://steem.chat/home

If you are lucky to find someone there, you will surely be able to communicate.

All best, Piotr.

Yeah, I used it a few times, but if those I am communicating with don't it's back to the old drawing board. Still, what do I know I guess.

Sorry to be a pain but I didn't quite catch that? XD

I'm also puzzled by the caveman communication comment, did I miss something?

Basically I think anything unencrypted is caveman but that's 98% of my communication currently because people staunchly refuse to learn and whine about the inconvenience and not to mention the mindblowingly blithering idiots in politics who actively undermine and have hysterics about encryption being what it is because some bullshit about national security

I am yet to understand why someone would leave a simple one word answer to a comment on their blog, or none at all, when there is some much to gain from engaging with more alacrity

Some comments don't really leave themselves open to much more of a response than your basic "thanks", and some of us are terrible at starting or continuing conversations and "thanks" is literally the best we can manage XD If I'm capable of thinking I'll sometimes try to ask a question to trigger more conversation and sometimes that leads to threads and sometimes it doesn't :)

I suspect there may be some technical difficulty in that when the thing was designed it doesn't seem like any provision was made for permissions which meas nothing can be private securely enough (it's been forever since I read the whitepaper so I could be remembering completely incorrectly and/or mixing it up with somthing else). Which is fine as I don't see it necessary for any one thing to fulfil all needs. On the one hand it would be infinitely more convenient to just be able to just private message someone on steem (like you can do with every other socnet) as you then don't have to track them down on Discord etc (assuming they even have Discord etc), on the other, eggs and baskets XD

Mine typically do, especially when it's someone I'm communicating with for the first time. My comments here relate only to my replies, I can't speak for others. Anyway, those that do the old one word comments generally are out of my mind before I've even clicked away, never to return to their blog.

Here's that I.T. person talk my pea-brain doesn't understand. 😜

The caveman remark was in respect of the prehistoric way I had to communicate with that user. Rather than having one comment thread, the conversation happened over multiple ones, multiple different posts, and the comment threads attached to each one.

I'm sorry, there's section of your reply I can't as the text is small and I don't have my glasses...I'm sure it's bloody awesome though.

LoL! Just coz you're not very good with computers doesn't mean you're a pea-brain XD

I have the opposite problem, I do digital art and I can make websites which apparently means I also know how to fix problems that crop up, and I probably helped perpetuate that completely inaccurate stereotype because I can fix some things x_x

LoL that multithread conversation sounds like most of my conversations XD

Bwahahahahahaaa that sub text (not to be confused with subtext) is good for something XD I make it smaller because it's not important but I still want to say it.

How do you do the small text? I don't actually know...(Pea bean brain and all.)

small text or small text

First one gives you chemical equations (like C8H10N4O2) and the second one gives you citations (thing you're citing[index number] and exponentiation (bn).

Or in our abuse of it, stuff that's not important but we want to say it anyway or image captions (until everything supports caption tags) XD

Goodness... I was wondering why the photo of my guns is not showing on my recent article's thumbnail. Is it taboo? Hahaha... it just tells you how naive (or ignorant) I am about many things in steem. I just go about my simple way... posting articles in the best way I can (and I certainly am no blogger nor am I a writer... far from it!).
Ahhh... an Australian rifle, and a bit pricey. The barrels are American made, I heard, hehehe. I still have to show what is in my gun safe!
You have a lovely writing style, and I enjoyed reading this article.
Have a wonderful day, my friend @galenkp, and take care 🥰🌺🤙

Hey there, I'm not sure about your thumbnail. I post about guns all the time, always have, and have never had that happen, nor has anyone advised me I shouldn't do so. So, yeah, I'm not sure what's going on there.

Australian rifle, and a bit pricey. That rifle as you see it the WFA1 cost me about $7500 all up. (It's heavily modified.)

Yes, it is, but far from my most expensive. That rifle as you see it the WFA1 cost me about $7500 all up. (It's heavily modified.) I have a lot of equipment and guns and it all costs a lot of money. Fun isn't cheap. It's like motorbikes...Or off-roaders...All expensive. I just do what I can with the resources at my disposal.
😏
Thanks for your compliments about my writing...This is far from what I would call good though, however have written stuff here I think is pretty decent, not great, just good.

Oh...in so many posts I mentioned about such a messenger app to be mandatory for Steem. I don't understand why we don't have one yet and why we still have public wallets. More than cavemen I sometimes see ourselves as cult members. Probably 2020 will bring a messenger app and the perfect mobile app as well.

I know, I've read some...A messenger and proper phone app would be awesome! There has to be someone out there who can make it happen.

Messaging is a must, for some reason i do not like discord, i am not such a geek to have it though it is another login i have to remember to use a tool to communicate with people from a totally different platform. I mean... It's good for channels and all, but if i just want to send a DM. Waiting for this option really.

I have discord too but hardly use it. I don't like those long message threads the groups have...I'm thinking a WhatsApp style of thing. I don't know, maybe there is something out there and I'm not seeing it or whatever. I had a massive chat with that user and it was so clunky and awkward...We had the chat yes, but it could have happened so much easier with a messenger app.

lol! oh, you discovered sir smithlabs! lol..he's been my closest ally since I joined, met him the second month here. Brilliant doesn't begin to describe that crazy Okie. I've tried over the last two years to bring up subjects that he knows nothing about. Good luck with that one!
Yeah, I had to get his private secure email so we could talk about things off steemit!

We have messaged back and forth a lot...He seems a legit dude. I like him. Maybe @smithlabs, @krazzytrukker, you and I should have a steem meet up somewhere...Imagine what that would be like? Lol.
