Here are some shots of my recent trip to Hood River OR and vicinity. Most of the time we are just passing by Hood River on our way to the west side of the Cascades to visit friends and family. This time we were traveling to Trout Lake WA (25 miles north of Hood River) to spend some time where we used to live for a couple years. In this post I will share some photos of the drive into Hood River, and a little of the architecture and signage in the town. Also included will be a few shots of the winery we visited before driving north to Trout Lake.

This a little moving panorama I created in Lightroom. We are traveling west on Interstate 84 on the Oregon side of the Columbia River. In the distance you can see Hood River and the Bingen, White Salmon WA area. Also if you zoom in to the darker more wind swept water you can see a couple of kite boarders making good use of the ample winds in The Columbia River Gorge.

A shot of a rock wall feature on the Washington side called Coyote Wall. Coyote Wall is a very popular hiking area with access to over 30 miles of trails.

The Hood River Bridge which connects Bingen and White Salmon on the Washington side to Hood River on the Oregon side. I've had the unique pleasure, due to moving, of driving a U-haul across that narrow two lane toll bridge. Nothing like meeting a semi or log truck along the way. I just kind of held the wheel tight and hoped for the best. :)

Time To Eat And Explore The Streets

Here is the view from their outdoor seating area. Closed in on top and three sides, to protect from the wind and cold, with heaters this space is almost usable year round.
On the left lower center of the image you can see where the White Salmon River empties into the Columbia.That is also the start of the road we will take later to traverse the Trout Lake Valley to reach our destination.

After our meal we decided to walk the town. On this trip I was focused on taking some pictures of the signage and some of the architecture.

This is the front of The Hood River Hotel established in 1912. I have stayed here a couple times and it is a great spot to stay if you want to explore the town. They also have excellent breakfasts. :)

Romuls West is an Italian restaurant billed as "Authentic Old World Taste of Italy". I have never been to Italy so I can't testify to that, but I do know the food was delicious and the atmosphere had me thinking I might be in Italy. :)

On To The Winery

This is Marchesi Winery just outside of Hood River. Again, I have never been to Italy but I get the feeling this is what a Tuscan Villa might be like. They plan a yearly trip to Italy for any of their wine club members that would like to go. I may need to think about joining their club. :)

For those of you that don't read Latin, the saying on the sundial Google translates to "all the time to seize the day".
Surprisingly enough the time stamp on this photo is 12:55. Looks like their sundial is pretty accurate. :)
