Heritage from the Past

I always say that this part of the world didn’t have the luck to bump into the “right” invaders in the Middle Ages.
Yet nevertheless Bulgaria has its cultural and architectural heritage from these guys. And the best part is that you could find it outside of the touristic capital city.

Agushevi konatsi or Agha’s Konaks is a 19th-century Ottoman feudal residential building in a small village deep in the Rhodope Mountain.

I personally have always had negative feelings towards the word “konak”, because of what we’ve learned at school about this period from the Bulgarian’s history. But I’ve never had the chance to visit one of these places before, and to admire the architecture and the beautifully crafted interior.

So, I was impressed. And I hope you’ll enjoy it too!
