Woke up early, said goodbye to Janja, hospitable Warmshowers host. She told me some useful information about cycling in Slovenia. Before I planned to go to Postojna from Ljubljana, now changed my mind. From Ljubljana I'm going in direction of Postojna, but before this city I'm taking a detour to Predjama.

Why changing my route?

Wish I could go to Postojna cave... but the entrance ticket is incredibly fckng expencive - 28 euros. All the caves here, on the famous plato Karst, are accecible or with money, or with a lot of ropes and equipment (and thy shalt know the coordinates of cave entrances). So, no caving for me in this trip. Btw, I'm doing some in Ukraine :).

Look what I found. It's Camino de Santiago, one of it's parts :).

There were a lot of uphills and passes on my way. I don't know why, but in such kind of places (roads with heavy change of altitude and dangerous curves) I often see a lot of motocyclists, and they drive really crazy. Some kind of extreme sport? :)

I'm slow, always pushing my brakes on descents. Better to be safe on the road, if you are a touring cyclist.

Predjama castle, built inside a big grotto, also has paid entrance and isn't cheap. But the best view on it is outside, and it's free.

From Wiki: The castle was first mentioned in 1274 with the German name Luegg, when the Patriarch of Aquileia built the castle in Gothic style. The castle was built under a natural rocky arch high in the stone wall to make access to it difficult. It was later acquired and expanded by the Luegg noble family, also known as the Knights of Adelsberg (the German name of Postojna).

Medieval engineers put the castle into the cave! Incredible!

Tomorrow I will go to Trieste. Camped (wild, of course) in a place where I have a scenery with a castle and mountains. Now lying on the grass and drinking beer. Life is good.

This is a part of my travel diary. 1 day = 1 post. I made this journey in 2019. Subscribe to follow, upvoute to support. Next trip is coming this year.

OMG! Three weeks on bike's saddle! You really need to have iron buttocks for this endeavor.
Highly recommend switch your bike for recumbent next time when you happen to be near Amsterdam. I use one for 20+ year and never looked at ordinary bike since bought it.
