Aruba, Jamaica...Oh, I want to take you

avatar

Aruba surprises me, Every single time. It always seems to give me what I least expect. When I went this month, I didn't know that they have been in a deep drought and it was so bad that even the cactus were beginning to die. So, when you see the clouds, no fear. The locals have been doing a rain dance for a while. It's all good.

The limestone cliffs on the northern coast of Aruba have been formed over time by the thundering waves and the strength of the trade winds. Natural bridges that were landscaped over thousands of years are one of their most famed attractions. The largest one, which collapsed in the middle of the night in 2005 still draws a crowd. You can see it here Adjacent to it, the Baby Bridge, pictured here.

Yes. It could collapse again people, and, perhaps not in the middle of the night. But, go ahead, because a selfie for Steemit or Fakebook is worthy of it all. No hablas Inglés? Praat jy nie Engels nie? Tu nu vorbești engleza? Hindi ka ba nagsasalita ng ingles.

Danger Will Robinson!

I'm not sure how many ways they can tell you to stay back. But, just like any good tourist, you know that is not meant for you. Because you know better. I watched the surf become furious and pound that same strip of rocks ten minutes later.

aruba 2.JPG

The sun shines brilliantly over the island and brings out the colors of the volcanic rock, mixed with what geologists have discovered; a distinctive variety of quartz diorite only found on Aruba.

It is a well-known fact that the windward coast harbors a collection of secluded coves carved into the precipitous limestone cliffs by the angry Atlantic waters. She is not to be toyed with.

The first time I visited the island of Aruba, I was very surprised by the cactus and the dry landscape. It was a Caribbean island, after all. I expected palm trees to be waving their welcoming fronds to the tiny Dutch Island off the coast of Venezuela. Stranger than then cactus were the trees by the name of divi-divi, which tend to lean toward the southwest, dancing to the call of the tradewinds. It gives them a slightly Dr. Suess look.

And just like that, this post is over! I want to thank you for taking the time to read. Today was a perfect day for a perfect day! I've said this before, but, when it is full and unavoidably true, it requires to be said again and again There is so much to see, so much to do and truly remarkable people to do it with. Life is good. Embrace it!

Bon Bini Peace Labrinth. A small chapel in the middle of nowhere, a stone fence around it, If you walk around to the back of the building, you will find a Peace Garden that many never cross its path since it's not visible from the Church. You can walk along the Peace circle of just sit quietly and meditate.

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post again and again, I am encouraged by you, for the time you take to visit, comment or even upvote. For all of these reasons, I am eternally grateful. Don't ever forget what a wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, how wonderful it really is. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Well people dont understand that those waves build up fast and a rip tide is not to be toyed with!

It is certainly beautiful there. I know I would not tempt fate on the stone bridges. Say how about you smuggle me a baby divi-divi next time you go?!? Thare are so cool looking... a pre-made bonsai!

In actuality, unless you have a South west wind blowing up on your divi-divi oh, you will just have a tree. The thing that makes it so unusual is the trade winds being so strong and pushing them to one side. I'm not sure what they would look like without the wind. And as far as stealing for you, I'm not sure I want to be put in a Caribbean prison for the rest of my life for transporting agriculture without proper documentation.

Somehow, I am thinking that it's for the old guy won't cut it. What do you think question mark do you think I should chance it? I did go on the bridge but you are allowed to. That was my tempting fate for the day. Hope you're having a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!

The bridge won't collapse I think. What a great place to visit, but I found the most perfect place to stay for me was that tree near the sea. I hope it's not cactus so that I can sit on the branch.
over all, nice blog..

I'll never tell whether I went or not! I shall not be judged. LOL actually, I always think of those things as information rather than the rule. One day, when you have to come and bail me out of jail, I will know that they were very serious. Aren't the fun things in life those that you shouldn't be doing anyway? Thank you for taking the time to stop in and say hello and leaving you're always kind words behind.

Have s grest day!

I think, when we are on holidays we are different from when we are at home - tourists are different and some just forget to use common sense or even forget their whole brain at home. These are mostly the stupid people who think they can climb a mountain in sandals ;) lol
And yes, that's the !DERANGED problem in life - most funny things are forbidden or not reachable 🙄

I wish you a great day too, Denise 🙂

Oh my goodness, Aruba is much different than I imagined. Volcanic? I too would have expected Palm trees, lol Definitely much more rugged than expected, I bet the hiking would be so fun...an archeologists dream :) Beautiful @dswigle!!!

Well the truth is the other side of the island is where Sandy with palm trees, but Cactus is a common theme and it surprises a lot of people. They haven't had rain here in so long but so much is very dry, but this side of the island is always like this with the volcanic rock in the quartz and very interesting.

Oh, you know! If I want palm trees I would go to Florida! LOL thank you so much for stopping by and saying hello and leaving you're always wonderful words behind.

Have grear day!

Haha! Yes! The bridge is so tempting! :) I had to get out on it to photograph everyone! That is my story and I am sticking to it! I like Lulu! My type of gal!

The peace garden was pretty cool and I did like it a lot... this was supposed to be a #WednesdayWalk but, I nixed it when the internet stopped working and I never got it out until after one am. :( This internet problem is beyond ridiculous! I haven't had any and it just decided it would work, so I am trying to push a #MarketFriday through.

Thanks for stopping by!!!

LOl I do try and have fun whenever i can, and funnily enough, in a meeting today when a couple of people heard i was retiring, it turned into a discussion about me and how I would be missed, which was kind of embarrassing, but one thing they discussed was my sense of humour LOL

Wow, it never occurred to me that a carribean island could have a drought! Huh. I hope they get rain soon!

Those tourists... Why is it so hard for people to follow basic safety rules. :/
Not that I would wish ill luck on anyone, but it WOULD serve them right if a wave washed them in... just sayin'. ;)
