2013: Traveller memories III: Brasília - Capital of Brazil

My stay in Rio de Janeiro was spectacular, full of history and tourist attractions, a delight among the tight work schedule that I developed, conferences and guided tours filled those days. Once the itinerary was completed, I moved by bus to San Pablo, stopping at San José Dos Campos.

In both cities, the activities were intense based on the limited time available between each event, they did not allow me to snoop as I wanted, I took some pictures of the populous and immense city of Sāo Paulo, as well as Sāo José Dos Campos, aerospace headquarters of the country, but I will leave them pending for another publication, I want to tell you about Brasília.

On May 25 I boarded the flight from Sao Paulo to the capital of Brazil, the modern Brasília, founded on April 21, 1960. The flight was quite calm and took less than two hours. After moving and staying, I decided to walk around the hotel. Curiously, I noticed that the avenues are very wide and the traffic very scarce. For those who are accustomed to traffic jams during peak hours, I would be delighted with Brasília.

Just one block from the hotel, an imposing tower stood out, as well as a colossal football stadium. It was late in the afternoon, I walked down that lonely avenue until I reached the architectural complex in the central axis of the city, whose geographical orientation is East - West. My first and only meeting for that day, the Brasília TV tower.

From the viewpoint of the imposing metal tower, at an altitude of 75 meters, there is a panoramic view of the organized and well planned city.

Seeing towards the front, right at the foot of the tower, a fountain of water that is illuminated at night, giving a beautiful spectacle. If you look far away, you will find the government complex, with a symmetrical distribution of buildings for public use.

The tower has a height of 224 meters, but the commemorative plaque says that its original height was 218 meters with a weight of 376 tons by 1965. Recently it was added six meters at the tip to improve the television signal.

At that time, the complex was re-conditioned with a view of the important football events at the door of those years: the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.

The National Stadium in Brasília was reopened on May 18. The same day I arrived to city, the Flamingo and Santos teams they faced starting the regular soccer season in Brazil that year.

That night, the fans crowded the stadium to boost their teams. I didn't know anything about the sporting event, but from the hotel room, I listened to the crowd that was going to the stadium.

The photograph shown above was taken the morning after the Flamingo and Santos match. I didn't see any clues of the past event. 20 days would pass, in that same stadium the confederations cup with the Brazil and Japan match would begin. The champion team was Brazil's tournament by beating the Spanish team at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
