Nothing like vinyl records

pageBreak.png

I have always wanted to get a record player. With all of the music streaming services nowadays, you don't really own your music. Yesterday, my wife and I were going to the store to get a new sound system for our room and I saw a record player so I decided to get it, along with a couple records.

Pink Floyd, in my opinion, is one of the greatest bands ever. Their music is more than just songs all compiled together for an album. They are carefully composed to take you on a journey. I haven't found any band in recent times that has that ability. Each album is like a symphony for your senses.

Last night as we were going to sleep and listening to one of the Pink Floyd albums, I started to wonder how records even worked. It was crazy to me that something with technology as old as a record could produce such amazing tones that some say are even better than digital recordings.

There are a lot of different videos that explain how records work and how they are made, but the one above is really good at explaining how they are made. It is crazy that the different sound waves are cut into vinyl and that is what you are hearing.

The whole process of listening to a record is pretty cool. From taking it out of the sleeve and setting it up on the player and then watching it spin and having the sounds coming out through the needle. The weirdest part is that if you put your ear down to the needle as it is spinning, you can even hear the music.

Have you ever listened to a record before? What are your favorite records to listen to and what records do you recommend I get to add to my collection?

They can get expensive, but I love music, so it is worth it for me.

I don't even remember when was the last time I played a vinyl. What I do remember is the clarity and vibrancy of the good old vinyls.

Veeery cool. I don´t own a record player, but one of my favourite CD´s is missing and THIS one you can´t find on Spotify or Youtube. Sucks, but it adds a special value to the music. Btw, there are some songs by Tiamat that are highly inspired by Pink Floyd :)

LOL - man you make me feel like someone from a different world - it's been two days since I fired up my vape and my Rega Planar 2 turntable and listened to Pink Floyd - Dark side of the Moon, and UB40 - UB44

I used to have 650 records but I sold most of them 15 years ago when part of the lounge floor collapsed from the weight of my record cabinet (no shit!) - so I just kept my 100 favourites.

My turntable is over 35 years old now. Holy crap...

I've been wanting to get a vinyl player myself for a while, but this is postponed till i finish my house renovation. Used to have an old soviet made that produced really deep sound and the process itself is also something like a treat to yourself.

I do not know what's so magic about analogue but there is definitely something in the way those waves are reproduced :)

And by the way, there is a fun way to listen to a record. You take a match, sharpen one end of it and split the other where you insert a sheet of paper. Then you start the device and pit a sharpened end of the match onto the vinyl and it plays! The sound quality leaves to desire for the better but it works! :)
