PhotoFeed Editing Masters 2

@photofeed has put up the interesting new photo editing contest "PhotoFeed Editing Masters" which already goes into its second week.
In the first week we had to edit a Pickup in the desert at sunset and this week they gave us the RAW file below, which shows a man in front of a bus.

I'm not a huge fan of doing people or street photography myself, but editing photos is something different and I had to give it a try anyway 😊

After importing the RAW file into Lightroom I have done some basic adjustments like brighten the image and enhancing the colors and some more. I have made the man even brighter and added a slight vignette to the image to attract the visitors eyes to the important part of the image.

Yet, I was not satisfied with the image, because there have still been too many distractions in the photo. This is why I have cropped the photo to get rid of these distractions I didn't like, which were the sink on the left side and the partly visible people to the right in the bus.

Now, after cropping, the image looks much more pleasing to me and I would give it the title

"Hmmm, I can't read this funny language - is that my bus or not?" πŸ˜‰

I'm definitely still learning the art of editing! One thing becoming clear is how many 'bad' shots can actually be saved with a competent edit. Good post.

Thats why I shoot in RAW only - there's so much information in the file that you can do almost anything with the image, as long as you take care that you haven't (much) pure blacks or whites in the photo when you take it 😊

Oh man, when I see here what you can do, I think that I should rather send you all of the photos that I delete Hannes.
That "Original Raw Image" would go straight into my delete box hahaha.

You fid a great job here and I agree, as the cropped one looks so much better.
And the caption is very fitting indeed.

That's why we shoot in RAW. You can make a colourless sunset colorful just by taking advantage of the color information in the RAW file πŸ˜‰

The edits are great. I've only got a smart phone and so edits are must for me. Hard to focus too much on anything but flowers at the moment. I really am a worker bee:) I will probably expand my repertoire soon.

Nowadays phones are great and there are many situations when a modern phone takes photos which are equal to a good DSLR photo.

If these phones were not that expensive I wouldn't have to Cary my heavy backpack with me many times 🀣

It's really much better editing @johannpiber. Actually saying its like the given picture is in dark, and when you edited it, it become a picture in lightsπŸ˜… with all appropriate color and texture.

I didn't notice the rain drops on the windows of bus until i saw you edited oneπŸ˜…. Your edited picture is really looking cool and it's a great idea to crop the distractions so that viewers can only focus on that which you want to show themπŸ˜‰πŸ‘.

Thank you very much for your kind compliments on my editing. Yes, the image was much too dark and it was also quite blurry and grainy. I didn't sharpen it a lot, but as you said, I made it brighter and enhanced the given colors. The cropping was necessary for me to tell the viewer the short story of the confused man at the bus πŸ˜‰ Thank you so much that you agree with me about the cropping 😊

Compared to our language it looks "funny" but also much more beautiful and artistically than our simple letters 😊

I have just told JJ and Zac about my morning: my first day off brought the first rain in a while ... I got soaked and had to ride carefully over a couple of mountain passes back home πŸ˜‰β›ˆοΈ

But there were dry moments too which I also tried to catch with my phone...

Now I am back home where we had a heavy thunderstorm, said my daughter. It stopped raining, but it's overcast and cool.

Your phone takes great photos Johann. The pictures are beautiful and the last one especially with the reflections in the water and the mountain in the background.

In the first two it looks like you were driving very close to the water to capture those great shots.

I’m sorry you got soaked but you missed the thunderstorm. πŸ˜„ It’s good the rain will cool the temperatures down .

JJ and Zac must be your twins. Cute names.

Good morning Jo,

the photos are edited, of course πŸ˜‰, but just a bit of color enhancement on the phone.

I was in Slovenia in the Soča Valley and this is the Soča river. The lake is the Lago di Predil just over the border in Italy.

I got soaked but I had a nice ride anyway 😁

it's beautiful down there in Slovenia and there are some beautiful places which haven't been found by tourists yet 😁

Exceptional editing work on this Thai bus in Bangkok! It’s very interesting to see how software could help improve that original raw photo!

Hi my friend, I know that adobe software is still a leader in editing software but would suggest to try Aurora editing software with new AI features.

Seriously, I have Skylum Luminar 4, and I like how it works, but apart from a few test edits I haven't used it yet.
Somehow I prefer the slower way, even if the AI would make a better result in seconds πŸ˜‰

And I'm just so used of the Adobe software which I have been using for about 20 years now - I have tried free and cheaper software though, but I have always come back to Adobe 😁

Of course you can edit manually on luminar as well. Just think more and more people looking for alternatives to Adobe software and to avoid monthly subscription.

Luminar has a great AI and you can edit the images manually as well, just as you say, but I would have to work for quite a while with it to get used of the different UI and usage. I stick with Adobe because it has always worked for me and they are constantly working on the software. The subscription model is nothing I prefer, but it is as it is ;)

Great job you really made that image look more professional i also look for distractions in photos and try to cut them out if possible or try and avoid them even before i take the photo πŸ‘

That's how it should be - avoid distractions when you take the photos.

I try it often, but more often I forget, and mostly I see distractions in the photos of others, but seldom in mine ... until someone tells me πŸ˜‰

Yep avoiding the distractions makes the job easier when it comes to editing i do try and look out for them and avoid them if possible 😊

Sometimes I see a distraction in a photo when I take it and think I can easily remove it in post, but sometimes I think wrong and stepping a bit left or right would have been much easier to get rid of it πŸ˜‰
