The Land of Far Beyond || The Plains of Weariness, The coming of Dismay and Despair ... (Chapter 14)

The Land of Far Beyond by Enid Blyton was inspired by John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress. Blyton put her own spin for her readers. This is by far, one of my most favourite books from her and would recommend it for anyone young and old. The original copy can be found in the Public Domain.

The story is about a boy named Peter and his two sisters, Anna and Patience who set out in a group of 10, in search of the City of Happiness. If they are successful, they will be able to get rid of the burdens they carry on their backs.

In this Chapter, again the travellers who are down to 6, are distracted. Even though they had set out with determination to make sure they would not stray from the path. But as they walked, the weather started to get cloudy before breaking into a full blown storm.

The travellers continued in the storm but needless to say, they were cold and tired. So, when they met a couple of guys with big umbrellas, they gladly took shelter under, except for Patience who chose to walk in the rain. The two men were Dismay & Despair, and they complained and whined about the weather, the meadow and anything they could.

Walking under the umbrella, the travellers could not see where they were going and finally when they checked they realised they had lost Patience and were off the narrow path. The two men, insisted that they take shelter at a castle they saw around the corner and wait for the little girl to find them.

But as soon as they were inside, Dismay & Despair took them as prisoners as the Castle of Desolation belonged to them. Patience, when she realised she had lost her siblings and the rest, started to look for help.

Sisters Cheerful & Comfort and their cousin Courage knew of the two men who were always looking for people to keep in the Cellars of Gloom. But Dismay and Despair were no match to the two siblings and their cousin, and ran off as soon as they came.

And that's the end of this chapter. Will they ever make it to the City of Happiness? I hope it is soon.

ps: There was storm brewing outside, so you are going thunder on and off... sorry about that!
