Voice Will Not Be Built On EOS

EOS came out with great publicity. The possibilities that were going to be uncovered, we were told, were going to be amazing.

It certainly was going to eclipse Ehtereum with lightening fast speed and low costs. DPOS would provide a better model than POW, which Ethereum is transitioning away from.

As EOS approached a year old, there was a big announcement. The newest generation of social media was going to be on EOS. Released by Block. One it would destroy many of the other social media applications including Steemit.

Over the last few months, EOS encountered some problems. There are persistent questions about centralization with a bulk of the transactions being validated are done by the Chinese. Then there was the cost of RAM which shot through the roof. In addition, the network was bogged down by an application that basically spammed the network.

In an odd twist, it is now being announced that Block. One will not release Voice on EOS. Instead, it will use an EOSIO blockchain.

In June when Block.one, the company behind the largest initial coin offering (ICO) in history, announced its Facebook-challenging social network, Voice, it promised the blockchain would run on the EOS mainnet. Plans have changed.

This certainly is not the end of the world and, for Voice, it might be the best move. It also does not negate the ability to eventually be on EOS with the application. This could come at a later date.

What it does is provide some very interesting optics considering Block. One raised a fortune for the EOS project. This cannot inspire a great deal of confidence in other developers.

Of course, to be fair, it should be mentioned that Dan Larimer did create EOS with the vision that it would be forked every which way. His idea was to have a blockchain that evolved into thousands of them. One of the ideas behind EOSIO is to create the software needed for people to readily built.

At the end of the day, other than to those who bought the EOS token hoping Voice would be built on there, this decision has little impact on the success or failure of the application. Most are not going to care where it is located. It is the application itself that is going to depend upon the success or failure.
