The Two Sides of the Walk

Fortunately, I live on the outskirts of town. In a suburb. The city is quite large, viewed on a European scale. The city is called Bucharest and is the capital of Romania.

There are two million inhabitants in Bucharest and Romania has about 20 million, so in Bucharest live 10% of Romanians. What I want to say? Of course, Bucharest is a busy city!

Not so crowded by people as crowded by cars. The narrow streets, designed almost 150 years ago and the lack of parking make the city suffocated by cars.

That means pollution and very big crowds, that means I rarely walk through the city center, I get there when I have different needs and for some time I have to go weekly to a dentist. Not too pleasant ...

Why two girls on a walk? Because, for me, any walk of pleasure or need begins in the park next to the house. It's the quiet and pleasant part!

The park is not large but the trees are the remains of a large forest, now cleared for the construction of the city.

After passing this green area, which is quite small, I come to the more circulated part of the city. I use the subway that is the fastest to reach any destination, with a stop in Unirii Square.

I choose to show you some pictures from Unirii Square, a place where many streets and boulevards meet and you arrive voluntarily or unintentionally, because it is a place where many public transport routes gather. A less crowded place due to the larger space.

In this place you can see the largest building in Europe, the second in the world. Initially it was called the People's House. Now it is the Parliament of Romania.

It is a building less loved by the inhabitants, there are many causes, the most important being that when it was built an entire historical district was demolished and because it reminds us of the communist era!

Upon returning home, I go through the green filter again. Cross the park. Now I realize that this passage through the park is very important to me. It makes me forget about the crowded and polluted city.
