Wednesday Walk On A Blustery, Wet and Cold Day!
My #wednesdaywalk photos are from my most recent walk at Loch Raven Reservoir in Baltimore County, Maryland. You may want to grab a cup of coffee as this will be one of my long ones 'cause I know how much ya'll love those! 😁
Naturally, I had to pick a blustery, wet and cold day for my walk but I wanted to get back and check on some trees that I had posted about including the little island trees.
But this is #wednesdaywalk and I already posted about most of those trees yesterday for #treetuesday! So, let's see some other things that I spied along my walk.
Oops! More trees! Well, there are a lot of trees here but in this next photo you will see one of the bridges that we drive over to get to this part of Loch Raven. Thank goodness for zoom!
I also spied this gorgeous tree that was laden with these colorful red berries. I don't know what kind of tree it was other than pretty!
I almost stepped on these mushrooms and if it wasn't so cold then I may have stopped longer and gotten more photos of the pine cones.
This was another tree that I wanted to check on to see if it was still standing and it was.
The downed tree in the background is the one I had to go under to see the other cool looking tree that I wanted to get more photos of.
It was as I was taking a photo of the other side of this tree that some geese decided to swim by. Man oh man! I was excited to get some photos of them!
That is, until, they decided that they weren't going to just swim by but were going to come right up to where I was standing! I started to panic but calmed myself down and stood still. I can hear you all now...."it's just some geese, what's to be scared of"!
They also had a mallard duck with them! 😱
Okay! I wasn't really scared of the duck but the geese...yes! They were huge and did you know that geese have nails! They don't have teeth but they do have sharp serrated edges on their beaks that sure feel like teeth. They will chase and bite you and if you've ever had that happen to you then you know it can hurt pretty bad and I was in a secluded spot surrounded by brush. I could only back away so much so I moved slowly and talked softly to them.
Luckily, they were more interested in the small berries on the little bushes along the narrow path that I was on. I was amazed at their beautiful plumage. I could just reach down and touch them if I wanted to but I did not dare to try.
I just continued to talk softly and moved slowly until we came to a more open area.
I, finally, made it away from their spot and I was happy to come away unscathed and also happy for the experience and seeing them close up. I wouldn't want to get caught in that spot again though.
Two last photos before I climbed back into the warm truck, shaking from the cold...uhm...yeah...the cold! Because it really was a blustery, wet and cold day! 😉

👍🙂👍
Loch Raven... Such an delightful name! Fantastic photos from your walk and you really captured those geese in all their poses! My grandmother was terrified of geese and put that fear in me at an early age. I'm glad they didn't feel threatened by you. Do you think they are more aggressive when they have little ones?
Thanks so much @melinda010100!! Luckily, they didn't have any little ones with them and were not so much interested in me. I do think that it could have made a difference but then maybe they would have just kept swimming by if they had youngsters with them. I was still a little scared cause they can really put some hurting on you. Seeing their feathering close up was awesome though and quite pretty. 🙂
Even though it was cold you had a lovely walk and got to check out what you wanted. Great shots of the geese. I’m glad the geese didn’t chase you. 😊 💗
Thanks so much Jo!! Me too! 😊
