When Corona Ends

Hello everyone!

Hope you're all staying safe. I'm still working away at my homework and my balcony garden. Tonight I'm doing a post for @theycallmedan's #WhenCoronaEnds Initiative. I thought I'd also use it as an opportunity to share the piece of artwork I finished today. It is sort of related after all. 😂

What are the first three activities you'll do when the coronavirus is over, and why? Start with the 1st thing you will do, the second and then the third.

Okay the first thing I'm going to do when coronavirus is over is go to a life drawing class. I KNOW SUPER GEEKY but for real.

My hardest class in art school so far has been figure study. I am not good at depth in my drawings. I can make really cute line art and quick gestures. But my area of expertise is really installation art and maybe photography. Most of my portfolio was based on photography to get into school. But I did include a few drawings. Here's one:

Don't laugh! It's nothing super fancy but I was very proud of it at the time! I worked for weeks to get there. The first one I did is too terrible to even show you. 😂

So you can imagine how challenging a figure study class would be for me. Many of my classmates had worked hard at their drawing skills and seemed in an entirely different level than me. 😬 I was not a quick learner and I often left the class frustrated and in tears. It was a rough time for me.

So fast-forward to today and I am finishing up my last required drawing course and I am feeling so proud. Because of our figure study class with life drawing I was able to create this piece of artwork. I am calling it "Changeling":

Not bad, eh? I have a long way to go to be satisfied but I have improved quite a bit. My parents can be relieved now that art school is not a waste. 😅

Really, drawing in a life drawing class changes your work. There's an energy that you get from the human figure that you are lucky if you can translate to a page. I want to keep improving so going to a life drawing class would be my first stop!

My second stop would be a cute bakery. My favourite in town is Jenna Rae Cakes. I miss cute bakeries and that one has the best cupcakes I've ever had. I probably don't have to explain to you why I want to visit a cute and tasty bakery!

My third stop would be a park. We're really supposed to stay out of parks and off of play structures right now. My city has declared a local state of emergency so it's important to stay inside as much as possible. I am lucky that I have a little balcony to hang out on but nothing will be as sweet as getting out into the air and back into the big gardens and parks! Summer is coming!

This was a fun post. It made me smile to think of all the things I'm looking forward to, once quarantine (and my homework u_u) is done.

I will do a progress post soon so you can see how I created my changeling artwork. Look forward to it!

Life drawing is such a powerful medium, and not enough people tend to understand its value in teaching your about proportions, shape, shadow, and everything else that is the human body.

Your Changeling work is an excellent foundation to build upon.

It really is something that will improve your art, no matter what you end up making. Even if I didn't draw people, what it teaches me about light, form, space, and energy is amazing. I will be glad when we can do it again!

Thank you very much!

Your photo is so good.... it feels like it could have been taken at any time in the last 50 years.

Hahaha, so super geeky, but I think times like this really show us what we truly value... and obviously learning and developing your drawing is super important to you. Love the changeling... you could almost make it a series as the figure becomes more forest than person.

So good!

Thank you! ^_^

That's a great idea. He has an almost contemplative look to him so I can definitely see him changing over time and become wilder, more a part of the forest.
