My Lockdown Essentials

avatar

'2020... The year The Shit Got Real'... Here we all are... Quarantined in our houses. I don't really mind, as long as I have my top 3 things with me during this time.

The Top 3 contest is a monthly contest that asks you to make a top 3 of things on various topics. This month's topic is 'Lockdown Essentials'. I guess we all have them.

As usual, I postponed writing my entry until the last minute. Now, I'm really running out of time and even though I don't really feel like writing, I don't want to miss out on the contest. So, don't expect a masterpiece, 🤣

These are my Lockdown Essentials:

1 My Laptop & Internet Connection

Actually, not a whole lot has changed for me personally. I've been pretty much home bound for the last 2.5 years, so I'm used to it. I learned how to keep myself busy, so I don't get bored that easily.

My laptop and internet connection are the things that make sure that my world is still a lot bigger than just my bedroom. Spending my time on Steem (now Hive) and Discord and playing @splinterlands I managed to stay sane ánd entertained.

After more than a year, I've also started using my personal Facebook account again. It allows me to stay up-to-date about what's going on with my close friends, and stay connected.

I really wouldn't know what to do without that laptop, and especially the internet connection.

2 My Garden

I've only just started my garden for this year. The weather has been awesome these last two weeks, and it's a pleasure to be outside. If it weren't for the garden (and of course the chicken that live in it), I would probably never set a foot outdoors.

Being able to go to the garden and take care of things that need to be done, or just enjoy looking at the freshly sprouted seeds is a great way to take my mind off things. In the garden, it's all about enjoying and relaxing. When I'm there, the world outside might just as well not even exist.

3 My Loved Ones

I suck at being alone. I can not even imagine what it must be like to be single, without pets, and to have to live in quarantine for weeks. I would go crazy.

During the day, my 3 cat-babies keep me company. They spend their day sleeping on the bed next to me. Sleep, eat, cuddle, repeat... That's their routine. I wouldn't want it any other way.

My girlfriend still has to go to work, unfortunately. Every day, I'm looking forward to the moment she comes home. Her and the kitties are definitely more essential than anything else. They can ground me whenever I freak out again after seeing/reading what is going on in the world, or when I start to overthink everything.
I really don't think I would come out of this quarantine as a sane person if it would just be me, myself and I.

These were my top 3 lockdown essentials. There are a million more essentials - what can I say, I'm pretty spoiled 😂 - but the judges did not allow me to pick more than 3 😉.

Keep an eye out for the dPoll that will decide the winner of the contest and make sure you cast your votes!!

Don't forget to follow @yourtop3, so you can join in on the fun.

So you’re a keyboard crusader with a green thumb! Not the worst way to spend your days in solitary confinement like the criminal you are, I mean being in blockchain itself is a sign of revolt against the system so get used to being boxed in lol

Laptop, garden, lover, animals. Check and CHECK. How blessed are you?

We don't have cats, But We do have my sister in laws dog Willow. She is lucky we arrived when we did or she would have been home alone with dog that needed socialising!

Sounds like you are pretty well set there! It's funny, I didn't really think of internet until everyone started mentioning it and I was like, duh, these days it is an essential on the best of days not to mention the worst. Though I have been getting into gardening more and more for the past few years, it really is that much more of a refuge in these times. Especially knowing I can snap some photos and share it for your garden journal challenge and enjoy the posts all around. Keeps me connected with my earth here, and the broader Earth around me. As much as I'm an introvert, I'm pretty happy to have the BF around, as well. No furry babies to snuggle with, but he'll do. Glad you made it in for the month!

As much as I'm an introvert,...

That reminded me of this gif I saw a couple of days ago

That's exactly how I feel it. I don't really miss the world outside. I'm actually perfectly happy like this. But.. like I said, I'm always glad my better half comes home at night 😁

I think you'll find this is all down to Q... that floor wetting fiend!

What do you mean you'd go crazy? I thought that was already a quirk in your personality 😁 But yeah, laptop/computer and internet, a must in this day and age and glad you have the garden as well to keep you entertained.

For me, I'm actually not affected by lockdown, this is my normal state of affairs! I am in a permanent state of lockdown 😂

Anyway, good luck with this month's contest and thanks for this masterpiece of a blog haha

Same here. Life isn't a whole lot different. Actually, the small changes were all for the better: I don't have to go to the store anymore, and no need to visit friends because they want to, lol.

What do you mean you'd go crazy?

You're right, actually... I should have set crazier 😂

Hey, it’s Q here - the mascot of the Your Top 3 Contest - just swinging by to say thanks for these awesome suggestions for our contest this month! I've given you an upvote and logged your nominations, ready for the dpoll - keep an eye on my blog for the dpoll post!

Make sure you set your post payout to 50/50. You keep the HP and then transfer the HIVE and/or HBD (whichever is paid out at the time) to @yourtop3 with a link to your blog post entry in the transfer memo. This is the minimum entry fee, but you can add as much as you like to it! The more you add, the more you can win. There is no maximum entry fee.

Not sure how to find your post payout? Look in your Hive Wallet under Author Rewards to find the exact payout for your post. In the example below you would send the 0.011 HBD and 6.441 HIVE over to the @yourtop3 account as your entry fee. I take it from there and convert all of the prize pool to SBD for easy prize distribution at the end of the month!

Well organized to continue doing what you enjoy, sounds like a great way to enjoy days being comfortable in your own skin.

I have a dog who keeps all the hugs going, walks around the garden reminders getting away from the keyboard and watering plants then chasing butterflies....

Have a wonderful day and good luck in the contest.
