I Have A Strong Passion For Construction

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and welcome to another weekend engagement. In this article, I will discuss my passion.

Since I was in elementary school, I have admired the engineering field, especially the work of civil engineers. I have an electronic journal that my brother gave me. I used to write about the importance of engineer in this journal.

When I got to high school, I learnt more about how important engineers are in the country or community. Roads and bridges are planned by civil engineers as part of the infrastructure that links communities, promotes economic development, and improves road conditions.

Although, it takes a lot of effort, sacrifice, and years of experience to become a competent engineer. Many difficulties have existed since the start of the civil engineering course. There are numerous tasks and practicals to complete. But in the end, it was worthwhile to make the sacrifice.

When I finished my National Youth Service (NYSC). Every graduate in Nigeria must complete this one-year program.
I was employed in a construction company, and I started my career over there.

Two engineers from Germany and one from Nigeria served as my supervisors. A Nigerian engineer served as my immediate employer.
Even though I didn't have any previous experience with road construction, the company allowed me to start my career.

I won't forget the engineers that stood by me when I first started without any experience.
I have witnessed young engineers whose aggressive bosses destroyed their confidence and forced them to change careers.

You will have a hard time finding a big company nowadays that will hire recent grads within their organization.
They don't believe in fresh graduates anymore. Whereas everyone started with no experience.

Why I'm So Passionate About Construction work

I enjoy finding solutions to challenges, especially those involving infrastructure.
I recall that the roads to our villages were in terrible condition when I was a young child.
The motor will drop you off at a far distance, after which you must walk to your house.

As the village developed, the roads were built to our house. I observed the engineers as they worked. I used to ask engineers questions when I was in high school, and they would explain things to me. I know a little about it, even though I didn't fully understand it at that time.

Several issues are resolved by engineers, such as structural and road issues. They are also skilled in the construction of airports and surveys.

Our hospitals were built by engineers. Imagine a world without engineers. Patients and doctors wouldn't have access to a comfortable environment.
We will have poor road conditions and structural issues, but engineers were responsible for finding solutions to all of these issues.

I want to share one important project that I did recently below.

  Boundary Problem

I went for boundary clarification in the above picture. I was introduced to the man by my friend. He has a problem with the community and this has given him a sleepless nights.
The community wanted to claim some of his landed property. They wanted to use it for commercial purposes.

The man called me to assist in resolving the issue.
Both the landowner and the community leader were present.
I asked for the survey plan, which will indicate the boundary of his property.

I came along with my total station instrument, which will measure the exact distance, bearing, and coordinate of the land. There is a digital display on the instrument.

I set out the instrument and my friend installs the reflector at the boundary's exact four corners of the property.

The landowner, who is also an engineer, had already performed some manual measurements before our arrival but wanted an advanced instrument to confirm it.
To them, it appears to be magic.
In the end, the man won because a portion of the land claimed by the community was his property.

The man was overjoyed that I had been able to find a solution and that everyone present knew that a machine I had programmed had carried it out.

They all agreed to my conclusion and everyone left the scene peacefully.
Imagine the scenario didn't include an engineer; the issue would still be unresolved.

I have completed many road projects where everyone else believed were impossible. Due to the difficult terrain and numerous obstacles.
Nonetheless, in the end, my team and I finished the project, and they were all pleased and prayed for us.

I love solving problems and that is why I'm passionate about construction work.
This post is inspired by weekend engagement prompt, proposed by @galenkp, regarding passion.
