On a personal note, I would hold the packs till the airdrop is over, to get the maximum out of them. Also, will not purchase potions, but use the ones won in game and always open with potions. Like this, you will have a definitely better ROI.

I 100% agree with you. Holding the 1k packs in the long-term would result in a much better yield.
