Sayur Asem Recipe

Hello hive lovers!
For those who notice with the background of the photo above, it is clear that this time I made a meal but not at home. I've been staying at my parents-in-law's house for 3 days. Because my husband's grandmother was very sick. He fell while going to the bathroom. His legs were weak and helpless at this moment, his waist was pounding and it hurt. But like parents in general, he does not want to be taken to the hospital for treatment, because he is afraid and is currently being treated at home.

Because my husband is the grandson who loves his grandmother the most, he told me to help grandmother and mother, because it must be very difficult to take care of sick parents. At least I can help a little and my mother-in-law doesn't have to worry too much about taking care of grandma.

So, while at my parents-in-law's house, my job is just to cook for everyone at home. There are a lot of people living here, there are about 7 people, so if I cook, I have to cook in large quantities.

This morning, my mother-in-law and I went shopping at the market, bought some groceries, then my mother bought one plastic vegetable which is usually made into Sayur Asem. Mother said that Grandma really likes Sayur Asem, Grandma ordered today for me to cook Sayur Asem, because Grandma needs something fresh to help her recover.

I was reminded of a recipe from a food vlogger that I usually cook, and the recipes he gives me are always good and delicious. So this time I want to use the recipe with a little touch of creation from me.

Sayur Asem Ingredients:

  • Corn
  • Melinjo
  • Long beans
  • Eggplant
  • baby corn
  • Gori (young jackfruit)
  • 4 cloves of shallots
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • Lemongrass
  • Bay leaves and lime leaves
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric
  • 3 pcs red chili
  • Tomato
  • Asam potong
  • Salt and sugar

How to Cook Sayur Asem:

  • Cut and clean all the vegetables, usually sayur asem use some vegetables as I wrote above, then drain.

  • Puree the shallots, garlic, red chili, ginger and a little turmeric for taste.

  • Heat 1 liter of water, cook until boiling.

  • Enter the ingredients that have been puree into the boiling water, stir slowly. Then add the bay leaf, lime leaf and lemongrass

  • Enter the eggplant first, cook for 5 minutes then add all the vegetables with the chopped tomatoes.

  • Cook until all vegetables are cooked and add asam potong (like tamarind) then wait for 10 minutes.

  • Then give a little salt and sugar, taste correction.

The easy way to make sayur asem makes me always make this sayur asem my favorite menu in the kitchen.
My husband always loves this dish. And the most important thing is that granny can recover soon, she will be happy with this dish.

A beautiful, fresh recipe; it looks so simple to prepare, too. The turmeric adds so much rich color, and is so healthy, as well. Hopefully, grandma enjoyed her meal.
