Hivenaija prompt: A safer Nigeria

May the souls of the departed through the mercy of God rest in peace πŸ™πŸ˜‘

Good day guys, hope y'all are safe? My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased in the Catholic Church at Owo - Ondo state, Nigeria. I pray that the Holy Spirit comforts you. It's so heartbreaking that even the house of God is now being desecrated. How sad...

Time and time again, I'll keep saying this; "the worse kind of war to ever happen is war with oneself". If a person is not at peace with himself or herself, then doom awaits that person and the possibility of that doom hitting other people, is sure. But there is always a way out of any situation.

WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE NIGERIA SAFER?

Realistically, I know the government wouldn't really care about the cry for help from the masses if what happened on October 20, 2020 still stands as an "unresolved" case but there are still some things we can still do as Nigerians without running to the FGN.

Working on the outside; Avoiding arguments leading to conflict
Many times, I've experienced scenes where little arguments lead to conflicts and escalates to insecurities within the environment. Some time ago, we (my parents and I) had to quickly lock up our shops in order not to be caught up in the conflicts of some "cult" guys. The next day after the police interrogated the wrong doers they caught, it was ascertained that the two groups had an argument and they began counting scores between themselves which resulted to a bigger fight that claimed lives. My point exactly is to avoid any kind of heated argument that may lead to throwing blows and hurting someone. You can never be too sure what someone's thinking.

Working on the inside; Being honest
Another step I'd take to make Naija safer is to be truthful to myself. Charity they say, begins at home. It means our morals and we should take it along where ever we go. Honesty is one of them. I know I have done wrong, I should be honest with myself enough to try and make up for the wrong done. This is exactly what we need in Nigeria. We haven't been really truthful with ourselves. We see evil, condemn it but don't work towards avoiding it from repeating.
This recent massacre in Owo isn't the first issue of massive bloodshed in Nigeria. Other incidents have happened and nothing has been done to avert the ones to come. Sadly, it will only continue to worsen unless we begin to honestly work to avoid further stories that makes the ear bleed.

Seeking God's face
Lastly, let's seek God. I know it's supposed to be the first thing to do but for way to long, we have transferred most of our responsibilities to God's hands. The logic to use right now is the idea backed by that popular saying; "heaven help those who help themselves". We work and then pray.
May God's grace be sufficient for us through Christ our Lord, amen. Peace ✌❀
