Sugar-free caramelized onions, very easy recipe (ENG-ESP)
Greetings, dear and beautiful community! 💚🤗 I greet you with great enthusiasm after a few months of being unable to share my recipes; I am back and eager to continue learning and growing in the wonderful world of vegan gastronomy.

Today I’m sharing a very simple yet—in my opinion—incredibly useful recipe that can truly elevate any dish; caramelized onions add that special touch that makes a meal absolutely finger-licking good.
While this recipe is usually made with sugar and vinegar, today we’re keeping things simple: we’ll cook the onions slowly in their own juices, and the result is simply fantastic. We’ll use just two ingredients—well, three if you count the salt—plus one more essential ingredient: a little patience. 😊
Let's make this recipe together!
Vamos hagamos juntos está receta!
Ingredients:
- 2 large white onions.
- 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil or whatever vegetable oil you have on hand.
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, or to taste.
Ingredientes:
-2 cebollas blancas grandes.

Let's get started with the preparation:
The onions should be cleaned, washed, and dried beforehand; we will slice them into thin strips (julienne), aiming for uniform sizes so they cook evenly.

Then, place a frying pan on the stove over medium-high heat and add the oil; once it is hot, add the onions.

Using a wooden spoon—preferably—stir the onion and add the salt; at that point, you can see the onions begin to cook in their own juices.

Cook the onion over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring constantly.

After 10 minutes, reduce the heat to low and continue cooking the onion, stirring occasionally, until it turns golden brown; this will take approximately 30 to 35 minutes.

After that time, our caramelized onion is ready!

You can reserve it to use as a garnish, for example I like to accompany a lentil stew with these caramelized onions on top, it gives it a very rich and interesting touch.

You can also serve them with avocado mayonnaise and top them with onions; it’s delicious on toasted bread, and it goes really well with a vegan burger, too.
I hope this recipe is as useful to you as it is to me 👍🏼 See you soon!

Nice recipe—it’s almost like a dessert. I’m also curious about the taste of onion with sugar, hehe.
This recipe works well as a side dish for certain meals; it’s also delicious if you add sugar and vinegar, though in this case, I decided to leave the sugar out.
Best regards! @crstypatata 😊

I never thought of this idea or sause before. But can i grind the onions instead of sliced?
I think the recipe won't turn out the same if you grind the onion, but you could give it a try—you might end up with a tasty sauce. I've never tried it with ground onion.
I love caramelised onions - no one thinks an onion is sweet, but they are!
That’s great—I love caramelized onions too, and I really liked this recipe because there’s no need to add sugar, although everyone makes them however they prefer and according to their own needs.
Have a lovely day, and thanks for stopping by @riverflows
