"To the Lighthouse" an original painting in my Seascape series

Beside painting animals and figures and imagined universes I am, indeed, at my heart a Landscape painter; or should we say seascape.

I love on the sea and it touches all I do.

Surely, I love getting lost in figures and animals. I'll sketch filigreed patterns on ornate dresses and give elaborate chairs to animals in my work, but my serenity comes in my seascapes.

To up the quality of the brushstroke I took high res digital photos of the piece and tried to enhance the brush strokes with my tablet. I rather like it.

It gives to the viewer of any prints and such of these the quality the original gives in real life, the depth of brush stroke on canvas under varnish.

There is a zen to my seascapes in their making. A wide paint brush, used for trim on the old house, with various shades of blue and green dipped on. Then comes the pulling of it across the fresh white gesso of a large canvas whilst the real sea rolls in and out right outside the door. It is an escape thatis hard to describe, but I think the gulls get it, with their cries and dives into the sea.

I hope you enjoyed my seascape. I may be sharing more in the future. As the seasons grows to Spring, my itch to get back into the boathouse studio grows...it's horribly chilly in Winter, so it sits idle until the weather warms.
