A Memorable Festive Vacation In My childhood

I was about 12 years old when I last traveled for a vacation. It was already becoming a culture that we needed to celebrate most festive seasons in the village. The indigenous people of that land living in the cities often return home to observe the yearly Christmas or New year celebration. Most civil servants were on break and believed traveling to the village was a better place to spend the vacation, especially when it was the Christmas season. As usually, we were set to travel to the village and we already knew how it would be. A few days before the festivities, everyone would harvest their produce, ensuring they were free from any duty to be able to enjoy the season that was packed with a lot of activities.

Even though I don't like staying in the village because there was no electricity and good water, it was the best place to spend the vacation, with its cool atmosphere and cultural activities that were practiced to welcome everyone home and to make the festival memorable. I traveled with my parents and siblings, this made it a bit fun for me. There were a lot of trees which provided the comfort we desired. When the sun is hot and scorching, we go sit under one of the shades. While our parents sit at home resting from the stress they encountered at their workplace, we either go fishing or go fetch some fruits with some of my peers. These were done before the festive day.

On the festive day, I was at the village square where the occasion is held. The drummers and singers were set, filled with the spirit of the season. They were ready to beat the drums until dawn as the women sang and danced. It was the best part of the festival and vacation. I'm not a good dancer but I saw myself dancing alongside the females and young males who danced round the drummers. Parents no longer worry that their children stay out late, it was a moment filled with joy and the melody of music. Sometimes we go about dancing from house to house but that is seldom done. The joy of the vacation comes from the unity shown by people who make time to return home, seeing certain people after a long while and the night of music and dance. I was still young then but I remember the fulfillment I experienced playing with my peers and dancing in groups. It was the joy of being among my friends who kept the moment alive. I no longer worry about the lack of electricity or drinking from the poor water.

When the experience is fun, one tends to ignore the other factors that seemed to be a discouragement, hahaha. Beside I wasn't addicted to phone then.
Thanks a lot for stopping by
