Your Veggie Shopping (Melons) // A sweet journey in search of melons (English/Spanish)

A loving greeting to all my Hive friends, it is a pleasure for me to be again in the beautiful community Plant Power (Vegan) this time participating in the space Your Veggie Shopping (Melons). I love shopping and being able to share it with you, I can't always due to lack of time but when I do I find it fascinating.

I had many days without being able to leave the house, since I am on medical rest, but in the company of my dear @aly.squid we ventured out to make this great purchase. What we didn't expect was that it was quite a difficult mission, getting melons in our community.

At first we thought we would just go to our neighbors "Los Pollos" who usually bring very good quality fruits and vegetables at excellent prices. But when we got there we realized that the melons they brought this week were very small, not bad looking and the price was very good, not even 1$ per kilo.But I particularly like big melons, in fact, size is one of the criteria I use to buy them. So without checking too much we decided to get out of there and look elsewhere.

The second place we went to was another little store that we know in the community by the name of "Los vecinos" (the neighbors).
These are not legal or official names, but since it is a small town, the people give names to the places and their owners, so it is more familiar."Los vecinos" didn't have melons either, in fact they had almost none, apparently they hadn't stocked up yet.So we continued on our way and went to María Luisa, who was formerly known as "María la Peluquera" but long ago closed her beauty shop and is now dedicated to merchants. Sadly there were no melons here either, at this point we started to worry.

We continued walking until we reached Mrs. Mary, but there were no melons here either. I confess that at this point I was a little tired, it had been a long time since I had been out, much less to walk so much and with such an intense sun. Aly told me to go back, but on the way back we came across other stores and decided to go in and ask around. We arrived at Edward's bodega, who we know as "Love" because he is a very nice guy who calls. We were happy to see that in one of the crates there was a large melon, but I was disappointed when I examined it, it was very soft and did not smell good.

In our community it is too hot, it is also a very dry climate so food does not keep for long without good refrigeration. This melon had the texture of when we filled a balloon with water and the smell confirmed to me that it was possibly starting to rot, so we left.

Finally we arrived at a store that we almost never go to, the first reason is because they have few conditions to preserve food and the second is that the prices are very high.

Indeed we found some melons quite small and with a cost of $ 1.5 per kilo, it seemed to us an exaggeration.

Here we gave up, Aly wanted to go home but I told her to give the small melons from our neighbor's store "Los Pollos" a try and we would come back.To our good fortune these melons were very nice despite their size, they had a good consistency and even though they were still a little green already the sweet smell was starting to permeate the skin.

I was thinking of buying several but since they were so small I decided to take just one.It will be enough to make a delicious juice once it is ripe.

It weighed only 1 kilo so I had to pay $0.80 and we went home with our little melon.

Having fruit at home is a great blessing, so it was worth it to make this long trek in search of a melon. Also, even though I felt a little tired, I also reflected on my strength, I had a long time without going out and walking so much but I made it, I didn't get fatigued or collapse and that is a great achievement. Because of its properties it will be very good for my health to enjoy this delicious fruit while I continue with my rest.

Your Veggie Shopping (Melons) // Una dulce travesía en busca de melones (Ingles/Español)

Un saludo amoroso para todos mis amigos de Hive, es todo un placer para mi estar nuevamente en la hermosa comunidad Plant Power (Vegan) esta vez participando en el espacio Your Veggie Shopping (Melons). Me encanta ir de compras y poder compartirlo con ustedes, no siempre puedo por falta de tiempo pero cuando lo hago me resulta fascinante.

Tenía muchos días sin poder salir de casa, ya que estoy de reposo médico, pero en compañía de mi querida @aly.squid nos aventuramos a salir hacer esta grandiosa compra. Lo que no nos esperábamos es que fue una misión bastante difícil, conseguir melones en nuestra comunidad.

Al principio pensamos que solo sería ir a donde nuestros vecinos “Los pollos” que por lo general traen frutas y vegetales de muy buena calidad y a excelentes precios. Pero al llegar allí nos dimos cuenta que los melones que trajeron esta semana eran muy pequeños, no estaban mal de aspecto y el precio estaba muy bien, pues ni siquiera llegaba a 1$ el kilo. Pero en lo particular me gustan los melones grandes, de hecho, el tamaño es uno de los criterios que utilizo para comprarlos. Así que sin revisar mucho decidimos salir de ahí y buscar en otro lugar.

Al segundo lugar al que fuimos fue a otra tiendita que en la comunidad conocemos con el nombre de “Los vecinos”. Estos no son nombres legales, ni oficiales, solo que como es un pueblo pequeño la gente se encarga de darle nombres a los lugares y a sus propietarios y así es algo más familiar. “Los vecinos” tampoco tenían melones, de hecho no tenían casi nada, al parecer no habían surtido aun. Así que seguimos nuestra marcha y fuimos a donde la señora María Luisa, quien anteriormente era conocida como “María la Peluquera” pero hace mucho cerró su estética y ahora se dedica a comerciantes. Tristemente aquí tampoco había melones, en este punto ya empezamos a preocuparnos.

Seguimos andando hasta llegar a donde la señora Mary, pero aquí tampoco habían melones. Confieso que este punto estaba un poco cansada, hacía mucho tiempo que no salía, mucho menos para caminar tanto y con un sol tan intenso. Aly me dijo que regresáramos, pero en el retorno nos encontramos con otras tiendas y decidimos entrar a preguntar. Llegamos a la bodega de Edward, a quienes nosotras conocemos como “Amor” pues es un chico muy gentil que llama. Nos alegró ver que en alguno de los guacales había un melón grande, pero me decepcione cuando lo examine, estaba muy blando y no olía bien.

En nuestra comunidad hace demasiado calor, también es un clima muy seco por lo que los alimentos no se conservan por mucho tiempo sin una buena refrigeración. Este melón tenía la textura de cuando rellenamos un globo con agua y el olor me confirmo que era posible que se estuviese empezando a podrir, así que nos fuimos.

Por ultimo llegamos a una tienda a la que casi nunca vamos, la primera razón es porque tienen pocas condiciones para conservar los alimentos y la segunda es que los precios son muy altos. Efectivamente nos encontramos con unos melones bastante pequeños y con un costo de 1.5$ en kilo, nos pareció una exageración.

Aquí nos dimos por vencidas, Aly quería volver a casa pero le dije que le diéramos una oportunidad a los melones pequeños de la tienda de nuestros vecinos “Los pollos” y volvíamos. Para nuestra fortuna esto melones estaban muy lindos a pesar de su tamaño, tenían una buena consistencia y a pesar de que aún estaba un poco verde ya el olor dulce comenzaba a impregnar la piel.

Pensaba comprar varios pero como estaban tan pequeños decidí llevar solo uno. Sera suficiente para hacer un delicioso jugo una vez que este maduro. Peso solo 1 kilo así que tuve que pagar 0.80$ y nos fuimos a casa con nuestro pequeño melón.

Tener fruta en casa es una gran bendición, así que valió la pena hacer este largo recorrido en busca de un melón. Además, a pesar de que me sentí un poco cansada, también reflexione sobre mi fuerza, tenía tiempo sin salir y caminar tanto pero lo logre, no me fatigue ni colapse y eso es un gran logro. Por sus propiedades será muy bueno para mi salud disfrutar de esta deliciosa fruta mientras que continúo con mi reposo.
